OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP
About OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP
OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP is a local anesthetic of the amide type now generally used for surface anesthesia. It is one of the most potent and toxic of the long-acting local anesthetics and its parenteral use is restricted to spinal anesthesia. OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP topical (for the skin) is used to treat minor pain and itching caused by burns, insect bites, sunburn, or other skin irritations. OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP topical is also used to relieve rectal pain and itching caused by hemorrhoids or other rectal irritations.
OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP is a quinoline derivative and amino amide with anesthetic activity. OTOGESIC 1.1% EAR DROP reversibly binds to and inactivates sodium channels in the neuronal cell membrane. Inhibition of sodium channels prevents the depolarization of nerve cell membranes and inhibits subsequent propagation of impulses along the course of the nerve, thereby limiting the excitation of nerve endings. This results in loss of sensation.
