About Naltrexone

Naltrexone belongs to the opioid or narcotic class of drugs. It is used as a prevention method to drug abuse, that is, to stop patients from using other narcotic drugs they may have got addicted to. This medicine is prescribed along with other treatment procedures such as behavioural counselling, change of lifestyle, diet, constant monitoring of vitals etc). Precisely, this medicine is an opiate antagonist. It affects the brains to stop feeling the effects of opiods which include a feeling of induced happiness, extreme relaxation and other misleading emotions. It helps to reduce the urge to take opiates. It is also effective in treating alcohol addiction when combined with a series of treatment procedures. The medicine can be taken along with a meal or along with antacids to prevent any adverse gastrointestinal effect.
