It is used effectively in protecting people who receive liver transplants, as well as infants born to the mothers who are already infected with Hepatitis B.

This medicine is also used to prevent people exposed to the Hepatitis B virus via sexual contact or sharing of contaminated blood products from contracting Hepatitis B. It is not a standard vaccine, and is not meant for long-term usage in treating Hepatitis B.
