Anaero Gel
Anaero Gel is antibacterial and antifungal. It is used either on its own or in combination to cure inflammatory diseases, endocarditis, dracunculiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis and amebiasis. It can only treat certain parasitic and bacterial infections of the vagina, respiratory tract, skin and joints. Anaero Gel is sold under the trade name of Flagyl and Flagyl ER.
Like all medicines there are certain associated side effects with the usage of Anaero Gel which are dizziness, headache, upset stomach, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, reduced appetite, either diarrhea or constipation, blurred vision, clouded thoughts, fever, irritability, aggression, depression, difficulty speaking and breathing, skin rash or redness, a burning sensation, blisters, sore throat, darkening of the urine, rapid or irregular heartbeat and mouth ulcers to name a few. Should the side effects continue or worsen overtime, contact your health care provider right away.
Before starting Anaero Gel treatment you should consult with your doctor and tell him/her if you have any allergies, have liver, nerve disorders or blood cell disorders, stomach or intestinal infections such as Crohn’s disease, epilepsy or other kinds of seizures, if you’re pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. In case you are nursing a baby the use of Anaero Gel is not recommended as it may pass into breast milk and cause harm to the infant.
Anaero Gel comes in both capsule and tablet form. The dosage will be prescribed by your doctor determining your age, gender, overall health and the severity of your condition. The usual dosage in adults for a bacterial infection is about 7.5 mg orally every 6 hours over a period of 7-10 days. And if you are taking it by infusion then the advised dose is about 15 mg once for 1 hour daily over a period of 7-10 days as well. Dose for other treatments vary from one person to another. In case of drug overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

Amebiasis
Anaero Gel is used in the amebiasis which is a parasitic infection that affects the intestine and amebic liver abscess caused by Entamoeba histolytica. - Anaero Gel is used in the treatment of trichomoniasis which is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Trichomonas vaginalis.

Bacterial Vaginosis
Anaero Gel is used in the treatment of overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina caused by Lactobacillus species. -
Bacterial Infections
Anaero Gel is used to treat the infectins caused by bacteria in blood, lungs, genital areas caused by Bacteroides fragilis and Clostridium species. -
Surgical Prophylaxis
Anaero Gel is used to treat infections that may cause after surgery.
- Not recommended in patients with known allergy to Anaero Gel or other nitroimidazoles.

The effect of this medicine lasts for an average duration of 24 hours. -

The peak effect of this medicine can be observed in 1 to 2 hours. -
Are there any pregnancy warnings?
This medicine is not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy to treat bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. It can be used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy only if clearly needed. -
Is it habit forming?
No habit forming tendencies were reported. -
Are there any breast-feeding warnings?
This medicine is known to excreted through the breastmilk. It is used in breastfeeding women only if clearly needed. Breastfeeding should be avoided for 24 hours after single-dose maternal treatment. Monitoring of candidal infections and diarrhea is necessary.

Warfarin
Anaero Gel may increase the concentration of warfarin and increase the risk of bleeding. Inform the doctor if you have any bleeding disorder.
