Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Hello, I’m Dr. Shaurya Rohatgi, practicing dermatologist in Mumbai. Today I will be talking about the various indications of laser treatment in dermatology.

One of the most common indications of laser is for the treatment of acne scars. Acne is a very common problem faced by most teenagers, and even adults up till the age of 30. Acne can sometimes leave behind marks and scars which can have a detrimental effect on a person’s confidence and self-esteem. There are many ways to treat acne scars, but the most effective way is fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing. Nothing comes close to this mode of treatment when we talk about acne scars. A few sittings of carbon dioxide laser resurfacing can give phenomenal results in the appearance of the acne scars. Carbon dioxide laser can also improve the pores and oiliness of the skin.

In addition, it can also be used for reversing the effects of age on the face, that is, as an anti-aging treatment. Other methods are also available to treat acne scars, such as chemical peels or micro needling with derma pen or derma roller. Chemical peel is a time-tested and well-established mode of treatment for active acne, pigmentation left behind by heled pimples and to some extent, acne scars. It can also improve your skin tone and effects of sun damage on the skin.

Excessive or unwanted hair is a very common problem faced by both men and women in today’s time, and they don’t want to waste time in shaving or waxing. This brings me to the second most common indication for laser, that is, hair reduction. We have a laser called diode laser, which is the most advanced technology for laser hair reduction. This laser can reduce excess or unwanted hair on any part of the body. This procedure requires no anesthetic, is absolutely painless, and has no downtime. Lasers can also be used for tattoo removal. A Yag laser is the latest technology by which we can remove tattoos of any size or color on any part of the body. This procedure requires no anesthesia, and has no risk of ugly scars following surgical tattoo removal.
