Dental caries, also known as tooth decay, cavities, or caries, is a breakdown of teeth due to activities of bacteria. It is the permanently damaged areas in teeth that develop into tiny holes called cavities. The cavities may be a number of different colors from yellow to black.

The treatment for this problem is dental drilling which seeks to extract the decay and install a filling in its place. Severe conditions may need the installation of a tooth crown.
