Levobunolol

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Levobunolol

Levobunolol a non-selective beta blocker, is used for treating open angle type glaucoma and other eye diseases such as ocular hypertension. It works by reducing the amount of fluid production within the eye thereby lowering the pressure and preventing blindness.

Levobunolol should be applied after washing hands. The tip of the dropper or the patient’s eye should not be touched to avoid contamination. A person using contact lenses should remove them before using the eye drop and should wait at least 15 minutes before replacing their lenses. The dropper cap should be replaced after each use. After applying the drop a gentle pressure should be applied unless the patient has undergone recent eye surgery.

The drop is available in two concentrations i.e. 2.5 mg/ml and 5 mg/ml and should be used one or twice daily in the affected eye(s). The patient must not use other topical ophthalmic beta-adrenergic blocking drugs along with this drug.

The common side effects of Levobunolol include burning sensation of the eye(s), drainage form the eye, itching, swelling or redness of the eye or eyelid, blurred vision, confusion, dizziness and others.
