Calpol 650 MG Tablet
Calpol 650 MG Tablet is used a pain-relieving medication. It is primarily used to treat acute pain. The conditions of acute pain include backache, headache, arthritis and toothache, etc.
The active ingredient falls under the class of analgesics, belonging to the category of NSAID. This medication also reduces pain in the body caused due to fever.
Also, it reduces pain in the body caused due to fever. This medication is often given to patients who suffer from cancer or have undergone surgery, to help them cope up with the pain. You should not consume this tablet if you are:
- Allergic to this medicine.
- Suffering from a serious liver disorder.
- Normally consume more than 3 alcohol beverages per day or have a history of alcoholism.
You must not take the medicine in more than the amount prescribed or longer than the prescribed period. It can be taken with food or without it, but you must take it, in the same way, every day.
The medicine must be swallowed whole, without trying to crush, break or mixing it in water. As it is a pain reliever, it is unlikely that you will miss a dose. In case you do, refrain from taking two doses together to make up for the missed one.
This medication does not have any serious side effects. It is safe to use this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, in rare cases, skin rashes may occur accompanied by nausea, stomach pain, and loss of appetite.
There are several drugs that may interact with Calpol. Inform your doctor about all the other medications that you take including vitamins, minerals, prescribed drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products.
For adults Paracetamol the general dose for fever and pain is 325-650 mg tablets once in every 4 to 6 hours or 1000mg tablets once in every 6 to 8 hours. It is advised to be guided by the doctor’s prescription and never to exceed the prescribed dosage.
For treating Paracetamol toxicity, Acetylcysteine 140 mg/kg is administered orally (loading) followed by 70 mg/kg every 4 hours for 17 doses.
Therapy should be initiated based upon laboratory analysis suggesting high probability of hepatotoxic potential. Activated charcoal is very effective at binding acetaminophen.
Maintain adequate hydration (2-3 L/day of fluids unless instructed to restrict fluid intake). This medication will not reduce inflammation; consult prescriber for anti-inflammatory, if needed.
For treating Paracetamol toxicity, Acetylcysteine 140 mg/kg is administered orally (loading) followed by 70 mg/kg every 4 hours for 17 doses.
Take exactly as directed (do not increase dose or frequency); most adverse effects are related to excessive use. Take with food or milk. While using this medication, avoid alcohol and other prescription or OTC medications that contain acetaminophen or Paracetamol.

How long is the duration of effect?
The effect lasts for an average of 4-6 hours. -

This medication should be avoided by pregnant women unless suggested by the doctor. The effect of this medication on fetus is not clearly established and hence, doctor consultation is recommended before consumption. -

No habit forming tendencies were reported. -
Are there any breast-feeding warnings?
This medication is safe to use during breastfeeding. Before using this medicine consultation from a doctor is recommended. If you see any incidence of rashes on skin or diarrhea in the infant report it. -

Appears to be well tolerated in cirrhosis; serum levels may need monitoring with long-term use. -
Does this affect kidney function?
Dose adjustment is needed in case of renal impairment. Dosing interval in renal impairment:- Clcr 10-50 mL/minute: Administer every 6 hours.
- Clcr <10 mL/minute: Administer every 8 hours (metabolites accumulate)
- Hemodialysis: Moderately dialyzable (20% to 50%).

Excessive intake of alcohol may increase the risk of acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity; avoid or limit alcohol intake.

Missed Dose instructions
This medication is usually taken as and when required. If the medicine is taken on a regular basis, then the missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. You should not take the missed dose if it is time for taking the next scheduled dose. -
