Risk of HIV acquired via blood transfusion is likely .there is also a risk when infected needle from a HIV patient gets in contact with non infected person Remember one thing it's very unlikely for a doctor to use same needle for two patients Needle when exposed to air the Virus gets damaged so the risk of transmission is 0.03% Very less likely to happen now a days with disposable syringes Thank you.

Very simple. Make sure everytime your body is being pricked by a needle that whether it is a properly sterilized one or disposable new one. You can also request your medical person to remove the packaging of syrenges and needles only in front of you, you have every right to do so. Nowadays, only disposable syrenges and needles are in use.
