As we move from one festive season to the other, suddenly clothes that once were a perfect fit begin to feel a little tight. Not fitting into your clothes is enough to alarm most people and begin the search for the perfect diet. Crash dieting is the worst possible form of dieting. This can seriously harm your body and leave you in a worse condition than you were in, to begin with. Amongst the million different types of diets popular today, a few are more popular than others.

Here are the three most popular healthy diets today.

  1. Paleo Diet - The paleo diet is based on what we imagine the prehistoric cavemen might have eaten. It involves avoiding processed food items, dairy and refined sugars completely, and rather filling up on plenty of proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables. This diet may be tough to follow but can quickly show visible results. Following this sort of diet increases the nutrient value of your food along with helping you lose weight. Some of the other benefits of this diet are that it helps stabilise blood sugar, reduces allergies and clears skin.
     
  2. Atkins Diet - The Atkins diet is an old diet that is still as popular today as it was years ago. This diet focuses on reducing a person’s consumption of carbohydrates. This is a four-phase program. It begins by restricting carbohydrate consumption to only 20 grams a day. In its second phase, the carb intake is raised by 5 grams per week by including nutrient-dense and fibre rich food items in a person’s diet. Once the weight loss stops, this carb intake amount is again reduced by 5 grams a week. In the third phase of this diet, carb intake is again increased by 10 grams until the weight loss becomes gradual and stabilises.
     
  3. Bowl Diet - As the name suggests, this diet allows you to eat anything as long as it fits into one bowl. In this way, it combats large serving sizes and makes a person conscious of how much they are eating. However, you must be careful of what you eat when following this diet as a salad that is drenched in dressing can have almost as many calories as a burger. Another thing to keep in mind when following this diet is to give yourself a minimum of 10 minutes after finishing a bowl of food to consider having seconds.
