4 Ayurvedic Remedies To Treat Lice on Hair

Lice are minuscule insects that generally germinate within the head of the infected person by laying eggs and sucking blood from the scalp of the head. Lice infection is generally viral and is heavily contagious in nature. It is generally advisable to treat lice infection properly due to its contagious nature. The causes behind lice infection is skin-to-skin contact with the infected person or sharing bedding or combs with the infected person and living in unhygienic places.

The symptoms of lice infections are extreme scratching at the scalp region due to the presence of the lice. Ayurveda can work as a useful remedy for lice infections. The most common ayurvedic remedies for lice infection are as follows:

Ayurvedic to Prevent Lice in Hair 

  1. You can apply onion juice on the scalp region and rinse it after 1 hour.
  2. Juice of Indian hemp might be applied to the scalp region.
  3. An application of a crushed paste of seetaphal before going to sleep.
  4. A mixture of phitkari and water can be applied regularly to the scalp region of the head.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Lice in Hair

Oiling the hair: Make use of coconut hair oil with a pinch of camphor powder, melted inside the oil. This is an extremely economical remedy, which contains no amount of chemicals. The mixture must get applied in a liberal manner to the scalp and roots of the hair. This can be applied at night. People can wrap a towel around the head or can even cover it up with a shower cap, then go to sleep and wash the hair after waking up in the morning.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Lice in Hair 

You can use these ayurvedic herbs, seeds, juices, and paste used to prevent lice and nits: 

Fenugreek Seeds: Get a handful of fenugreek seeds and soak them up overnight in clear water. Prepare a paste and apply it on the scalp. Then let the paste stay for half an hour. Wrap your head up with a towel or you may even cover up your head with a shower cap. Wash the paste away and do shampoo, just the way it is done in a usual manner. These seeds have extremely potent anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal properties, which help to prevent hair fall and thus, aid in hair growth.

Garlic and Limejuice: Another Ayurvedic remedy used for lice removal. The use of garlic and lime juice is extremely important in treating the problem of lice. People can take a few pods of garlic and crush. Then they should add lemon juice to turn it into a paste. That paste should be applied to the scalp and must be left that way for 30 minutes. Then wrap the head with a towel. Afterward, wash away the paste and do shampoo in a normal manner. The mixture of garlic and lime has astringent properties, which help to ward off insects as well as pests.

Custard Apple Seed Powder: Other ayurvedic remedies used to treat lice in the hair, Dry seeds of the custard apple are transformed into a powder. This can be turned into a paste with the addition of gram flour. One can apply this paste to the scalp and leave it that way for half an hour. Use Ayurvedic shampoo for hair after that comb your hair for dead lice. The components, which are present on the seeds help to eliminate the lice out quickly. This process can be repeated until the head becomes completely free from lice.

Though a preliminary application of the Ayurvedic mixtures tends to remove a layer of the lice, all the eggs are nearly impossible to destroy in the first dosage, if the infection has been there for a long period.
