Hello, my name is Dr Prashant Das from Dr Monga’s Health World and today in our series, ‘Hello Doctor’, we will be talking about Ayurveda and many other things related to Ayurveda. And, I’ll be interacting with  Dr. Jyoti Monga of Dr Monga Clinic.

Dr Jyoti-  Hello, Good morning, I’m  Dr. Jyoti Monga, so we can start with the questions?

Dr Prashant Das- Thank you, Dr. Jyoti. So my first question to you is what exactly is Ayurveda?

Dr Jyoti-  Okay, so, everybody has listened the term ‘ayurveda’. So Ayurveda if we split into two words, it’s ‘ayur’ and ‘veda’. ‘Ayur’ means life and ‘veda’ means science. So when we enter the college, the first sloka that we learn or we are taught is ‘Hita hitam sukham dukham ayus tasya hitahitam mana ch tachha yatrokatam Ayurveda sa uchyate’. Iska matlab hai, hitkar ahitkar sukhkar dukhkar ayu hai, aur iske ahit aur hit ke baare mein jo humein gyaan deta hai, usse ayurveda kahan jata hai. So I think you would be able to understand that it is the science in which we learn how to lead a healthy life and how we can get rid of the diseases.

Dr Prashant Das-  And my next question to you is why Ayurveda is not the first or primary option for a common man? When he is facing some problem and he goes to a doctor, why Ayurveda is not his first choice?

Dr Jyoti-   It’s very unfortunate actually. Ayurveda having its origins from India, people don’t believe that it is their own pathy, they don’t trust it. There are a lot of causes, lot of reasons why this is emerging as it. People are not trusting ayurveda as they are trusting the other pathies. So, first of all, is the ayurvedic doctors, you know they themselves do not have the confidence that they can treat people with ayurveda. They actually practice modern pathy, they do not know that there is hardly anything which they cannot treat with ayurveda. Secondly, you know, is the quacks. Quackery is a very very very big issue, you know. Aap jab jaate hai raste pe tab bahut saare aapko tent lagaye huye nazar aate hai, jispe aap dekhte hai, ‘ayurveda dwara ilaj kijiye’, ek jhole wala baba betha hota hai aur unhone 10-15 jars mein jo hai who aapke ayurvedic oshadhiya rakhi hui hai. Toh, people think that shayad yahi ayurveda hai, sorry, it is not ayurveda. And one very important thing, people think that drinking amla juice every day, drinking aloe vera, going vegetarian, and practising yoga is ayurveda. It is a part of ayurveda, but it is not complete ayurveda. People actually don’t know what wonders this pathy can do.

Dr Prashant Das-  Okay, so that leads me to the next question. We have been hearing about Dr Monga Clinic and we have a punch line also, that we practice ‘ethical ayurveda’. What is the difference between a normal ayurveda practice and an ethical Ayurveda practice?

Dr Jyoti-  You know, Mr Prashant, at Dr Monga’s Health World, our main motive is to develop faith in our ayurvedic pathy, means our ayurvedic medicine. We are doing our level best so we can make people understand that Ayurveda can do wonders, you know. But when we enter the college, we are taught, sabse pehle aapko kya karna chahiye? Hetu, ‘hetu’ means karan ko dhundiye. So until and unless you have a detailed word with your patient ki why you are having this problem, what is the diet, what is the lifestyle because there are so many so many things that are adding to the present condition of the patient. Thik hai, there are physiological diseases also, but they are getting worsened by your diet and lifestyle. So here at Dr Monga Clinic, we tell the patients to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle, to make changes in the diet and lifestyle, so that they can have the ultimate good health.

Dr Prashant Das-      A related question to the answer that you have just given, I would like to ask you how can a patient when he comes to an ayurvedic doctor and he gets prescribed for his disease or an illness, how can he derive the maximum benefits from the goodness of ayurveda?

Dr Jyoti-Very good question, actually. Actually, the best thing that a patient can get after having an ayurvedic treatment is that first of all, he or she should follow the do’s and don’t’s very properly. Finally, when a person comes to an ayurvedic doctor, woh sab jagah ghumke aata hai. The stage is at such a chronic point that you cannot expect wonders. It will take its time. So, first of all, they need to be patient, they need to follow the do’s and don’t’s properly so that they can achieve the best out of the ayurvedic treatment.

Thank you so much doctor and this brings to the first conclusion of the first episode of ‘Hello Doctor’, we’ll see you again, until then, take care and have a healthy life.
