Anal Sex - 5 Reasons Why it is Not Good for Your Health
In order to spice up their relationship, couples can sometimes consider the option of anal intercourse instead of vaginal intercourse. Some recent studies have suggested that anal sex is actually bad for your health and can also result in severe and life threatening conditions.

Below are a few reasons that will make you aware of the risks of involving in anal sex. They are as follows:

Fissures or piles: The anal tissues are non-stretchable and thereby an insertion of the penis into your partner s anus can lead to tearing of the anus which might make your partner prone to anal fissures or piles. Besides, anal sex can cause severe pain while excretion the morning after, as there can be a significant weakening of the anal muscles.
Increases the chances of anal cancer: If you and your partner frequently engage in anal sex, your partner s chances of getting anal cancer increases as the act can initiate the transmission of the Human Papillomavirus (the virus responsible for anal cancer).
Bacterial infection: Anus is a place designed to hold and facilitate the passing of faeces. This makes it a fertile breeding ground and holding area for bacteria. Through insertion, there is a high chance that you can be infected through your partner s bacteria. Also if vaginal intercourse occurs immediately after anal intercourse, your partner can also get affected by the bacteria that transfer from the anus to the vagina. It can cause UTIs or urinary tract infections at the least and more serious infections as well.
Sexually transmitted diseases: Contrary to popular opinions, having unprotected anal sex can actually increase the chance of getting HIV and other deadly Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD s). As the anal tissues are extremely fragile, the risk of the transmission of sexually transmitted infections in the bloodstream remains quite high for both the partners involved. Even if you re using a condom whilst engaging in the act, the chances of getting STD s looms large as condoms are more prone to breakages during anal sex.
You can still get pregnant: Engaging in unprotected anal sex does not really mean that you cannot actually get pregnant from it. There is a slight chance of semen leakage from the anus which can seep into the vagina and result in pregnancy.

Anal Fissures Treatment - Self-Care, Medications, And Surgery!
What do you mean by anal fissures?
An anal fissure is a little laceration in the moist tissue that lines the opening of the anus. An anal fissure might develop as a result of a trauma. For example, a person suffering from constipation (or diarrhea) can develop fissure as a result of exerting too much pressure while defecating.

Some of the symptoms of anal fissures include:

Bleeding during defecation
Defecation accompanied by a burning pain
A persistent discomfort around the anus even after bowel movement
Itching sensation
In chronic case a small skin tag may be seen protruding out at Anal verge. Anal fissure causes considerable physical uneasiness and can mar one s mood for days on end if left untreated.
For someone who has recently developed this disorder, home remedies might work.

Sitz Bath: This is a very effective self-care remedy that can ease the pain that anal fissure is characterized with. Here one needs to soak the rectal area in warm water for 10-15 minutes to help improve blood flow and relax the anal sphincter. The routine should be repeated 3 to 4 times for better result.
Fiber-rich diet: Patients suffering from constipation shall consume fiber-rich foods like wheat, whole grain, fruits, oatmeal and cereals.
Fluids: These patients must drink 8 to 9 glasses of water on a daily basis to induce smooth passage of stool. Medicines Medicines are prescribed only if self-care treatment methods do not work.
Here is a list of the medicines that are used to treat anal fissures:

Stool Softeners are advised for easy evacuation for example Haritaki Churna, Triphala Churna etc.
Soothing Ointments: Any soothing ointment like cow s Ghrit, coconut oil or Sushruta Ointment if applied in anal region will ease out the pain.
Kshar Karma: Application of specialized Kshar Compounds under supervision of an Ayurvedic specialist at weekly sittings lead to healing of Anal Fissure.
Surgery -

Most common complication of Surgery is stool incontinence where patient is unable to hold stool due to damage to sphincter muscles. Whereas Ayurvedic Ksharsutra is a completely safe and more effective treatment. In this treatment Ksharsutra is ligated at the root of Sentinel tag. Medicine released from the thread blocks the blood supply of tag and it sheds off in 5-7 days. This combined with Kshar Karma sittings heals the fissure completely without any surgery.

Piles, Fistula And Fissures - How Ayurvedic Remedies Can Help?
Piles, fistula and fissures are the most common problems affecting the rectum and the anus. Both the rectum as well as the anus has a very rich vascular supply. There could be swelling of these blood vessels or tearing which can lead to the above conditions. Read on to know additional details about each of these conditions.

Piles: In simple words, swollen blood vessels of the anal region are called piles. It can be internal or external, depending on its position inside the rectum or outside the rectum respectively.

Causes:

Chronic constipation, where the person has to strain to pass stools
Increased frequency of motion as seen in dysentery etc.
Increased abdominal pressure like in pregnancy, obesity etc.
Smoking and genetics can also lead to piles.
Symptoms: Starts off as painless bleeding, which happens in the form drops or blood spurts during bowel movement (1st stage); the swelling develops later on. They can continue to grow and may come out of anal canal while passing stool (2nd stage). Later on Pile mass comes out even on sneezing, coughing or standing for prolong time (3rd stage)

Treatment:

In the early stages, once identified, simple Kshar Karma (application of special medicines) is effective..
Diet should be rich in fiber, with fruits and vegetables
Increased water consumption
Ksharsutra Ligation of Pile mass if the disease has reached the 2nd or 3rd stage
Prevention is advised if there is a family history by taking measures like consuming a fiber-rich diet and maintaining hydration, regular exercises. Sphincter exercise etc.
Fistula: When an anal gland gets infected; it may discharge pus around the anal region or inside anal canal. Anal Fistula is characterized by presence of a nodular swelling around anal orifice with on and off discharges. This condition is usually painless however some pain may be noticed in the swelling before the pus discharges. After pus discharge pain and swelling disappears to recur again after some time.

Symptoms:

A constant wet feeling in the anal area, due to pus discharge.
This would be intermittent, and there would be periods with no discharge.
There could be a foul smell due to pus discharge.
Diagnosis and Treatment:

Identifying the exact location is important for Ksharsutra ligation or Surgery/ VAAFT.
An ultrasound scan or an MRI is usually done.
Ksharsutra ligation is a better option as compared to surgery/ VAAFT as the chances of recurrence after surgery/ VAAFT are very high.
Ksharsutra being a non surgical procedure; is more convenient and more effective as compared to surgery. This has already been proved by the scientific trials conducted at AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh etc. by Indian Council of Medical Research in 1990.

Graded Ksharsutra is the latest development in Ksharsutra Therapy which is available only at Sushruta Ano Rectal Institute, New Delhi.

Fissures: Fissure is a very painful condition produced due to cracks anywhere in the length of the anal canal usually at the anal verge.

Symptoms

Very painful and the person may not want to go to the toilet
Rarely bleeding is also seen, maybe in very small amounts
Treatment:

Over 90% of the fissures do not require surgery and can be easily managed by Kshar Karma sittings.
Switching to a high-fiber diet and improving hydration will help in managing these symptoms.
Topical relief can be provided by application of medicated oils and paste.
When they are recurrent, a procedure known as lateral sphincterotomy is done. However this procedure is known to have a common complication of fecal incontinence. This is usually seen due to damage to sphincter muscles during surgery or over stretching. Patient is not able to control / hold the stools.
Anal fissure whether acute or chronic can be easily managed by Kshar Karma and Ksharsutra ligation. No surgery or hospitalization is required; and above mentioned complications are also not seen with this highly specific treatment of Ayurvedic surgery.
Though one condition can lead to another, in most people, there is a strong family history and working towards prevention is highly recommended.

Not Pooping Regularly - Ways It Will Affect Your Body!
An essential prerequisite for good health is having regular bowel movements. People all over the world have a misconception about the regularity of bowel movements. Having bowel movements three times a day or three times a week (if that is the routine) is considered regular. Irregularity in bowel movements can often lead to constipation and it is something that should never be ignored. It not only affects our health but also affect our overall being in ways that are unexpected. Let us take a look at some of these unexpected side effects of not pooping regularly:

Constipation can trigger headaches: The cause for a headache can be many things, but the first likely reason is stress. When you do not poop properly, the pain, inconvenience and worry will build up, leading to mental stress. This anxiety can trigger headaches. Also, headache can occur because of dehydration, which is often a result of constipation. By drinking more water, you can get a relief from both constipation and headaches. Moreover, the buildup of toxins in the body also causes a headache. regular is a key channel that releases all the toxins from the body and when that does not work, it is bound to cause problems.
It can cause breakouts: What happens in and out the gut shows up on the skin. Skin conditions like acne, pimple, dark circles and even rashes can occur due to internal gut and digestive issues. When the toxins are not eliminated regularly from the body, they tend to accumulate over time leading to major skin breakouts.
It carries a risk of anal fissures: Due to hardened stool, there is not enough lubrication and this can lead to a tear of the skin. This is called an anal fissure and the prime symptom of this condition is the presence of blood in your stool. So, if you feel pain or see blood while pooping, you need to contact your healthcare provider and relieve your condition.
It may cause Diverticula or Heamerhoids: Long term constipation can lead to certain ailments which tend to form because of the pressure of straining to pass your poop. You can be affected with diverticula which result in bulges or pouches on the lining of the colon area. Or it can also cause a strain in the veins along the rectum and lead to
Hemorrhoids.
It affects your Bladder control: The colon and the bladder share a close relationship with each other. If there is too much pressure on the bladder because of a full colon, it can lead to decreased control of the bladder. Your bladder will not fill all the way, empty badly or cause unexpected leakages. So, chronic constipation can cause apparent leakage problems too.
It can make you lose appetite: Eating food can be a major turn off for people with constipation. Appetite loss is not just an enjoyable form of hunger suppression, but a big inconvenience.

Piles - 5 Ways Ayurveda Can Treat It!
Piles or haemorrhoids refer to a condition when the veins of the rectum or the anus get abnormally enlarged and causing significant bleeding and inflammation. Generally, there are two types of piles that are found in the human body. One is internal haemorrhoid which is generally painless and occurs in the inner layer of the anal region. The other is external haemorrhoid which occurs in the external layers of the rectum making it easily visible and extremely painful.

The causes of Haemorrhoids are obesity, a desk-bound lifestyle, untreated chronic gastric conditions like dysentery, diarrhoea, constipation, hereditary factors, pelvic tumours and significant increase in the weight of the uterus at the time of pregnancy.

The symptoms of piles include severe pain in the anal region followed by blood discharge with the faecal materials along with extreme irritability in the particular region and abnormal enlargement around the anal region.
In Ayurvedic treatments, piles are referred to as Arsha Shoola which means extreme painful conditions that resemble needle piercing. However, this intense sensation of pain can be eradicated by Ayurvedic treatments as it concentrates on the elimination of the symptoms.

Some essential Ayurvedic remedies for piles are as follows:

Haemorrhoid is a medical condition that largely occurs due to a bad digestive system. A prescribed dosage of haritaki and jimikand might help in the overall improvement of your digestive system.
According to the Ayurvedic scriptures, piles can be treated, if you can maintain a healthy dietary regime that should include amalaki, papaya and jamrul, but not excessive starch-containing foods like potato and pumpkin.
A mixture containing radish and milk can be applied in the entrance of the anus twice a day to cure piles.
A juicy extract of mint leaves and ginger along with a pinch of lemon juice and honey can be consumed twice a day to get rid of piles.
If the bleeding is continuous a prescribed dosage of the herb nagakesara might provide adequate relief.

An Ayurvedic Approach To Piles Treatment!
Piles or Haemorrhoids is a disorder characterized by bleeding from anal opening during defecation. This bleeding can be in the form of drops or spurts. If untreated; mass protruding out from rectum is noticed. Initially this Pile mass gets reduced by itself but later on it progresses further so manual reduction of Pile mass becomes necessary. Later on these pile masses come out even on coughing sneezing, walking etc. Depending of their site of origin; these are divided in to internal and external Piles.

How can you tell if you have Piles?
Painless bleeding is the first sign of Piles. If it is not treated at this stage Pile mass protrudes out from Anal opening. The symptoms of piles are

Internal Piles:

In first stage, painless bleeding is the only symptom of Piles.
In second stage, pile mass protrudes out from Anus during defecation which gets reduced by itself. In late second stage; Pile mass needs to be reduced manually.
In third stage; Pile masses again come out after manual reduction. During sneezing coughing and walking also pile mass come out.
External piles: A solid/ semi-solid lump in the anal region which becomes prominent while passing stools is the external haemorrhoid. When inflamed it constitutes of coagulated blood these are known as external haemorrhoids.

Why do Piles occur?
Piles occur when pressure in the lower rectum increases unduly. Due to this undue pressure, the blood vessels in the anus and rectum become swollen and bulge out. The causes behind this undue increase in pressure are

Chronic diarrhoea
Chronic constipation
Pregnancy
Lifting heavy weights
Putting too much pressure while passing stool
The Ayurvedic Approach To Piles Treatment-
The ayurvedic approach to treating piles is a mix of exercise, lifestyle changes, diet, supplements and medication. The primary cause of piles being constipation, a large portion of the treatment is focused on improving the patient s digestive health and bowel movement.

Haritaki churna is recommended to soften stool.
Fibre rich foods like green leafy vegetables salads should be consumed in adequate quantity.
To soften the stools, foods like papaya, amalaki, and figs are advised.
A regular ayurvedic colon cleanse is very beneficial to keep the digestive system in good condition. Some other measures you should adopt are

Take plenty of liquids like water, butter milk fruit juices etc. Butter milk is specially beneficial in Piles.
Do regular Exercise
Avoid sedentary lifestyle.
Along with this Kshar Karma is done at week or 10 days interval. In this treatment specialized Ayurvedic medicine is applied on Pile masses. Kshar Karma stops bleeding and suppresses Pile masses. When these measures do not work and the Pile masses are big enough to remain inside and protrude out often; Ksharsutra ligation of Pile mass is recommended.

In this treatment; Ksharsutra a medicated thread is ligated at the root of Pile masses. Medicine released from thread blocks the blood supply of pile mass and Pile mass sheds off within 5-7 days. No hospitalization or bed rest is required in this treatment. Patient can continue his daily routine activities as usual. So Ayurvedic Kshar Karma and Ksharsutra are quite effective in treating Piles in all its stages and Piles can be treated completely without surgery.

Piles - Treating It The Right Way With Homeopathy!
When a condition is painful, it is common to hate it. And, when the condition is the piles, you will hate it more, because, along with the pain it might embarrass you as well. Characterized by the enlargement of blood vessels that surround the anus, when the veins tend to swell towards the lower-end of the rectum and anus, it is called piles. Swelling of the veins that are located within the rectum is called internal haemorrhoids. External piles is a condition where the veins towards the external part of the anal verge become swollen.

Symptoms that you may not fail to notice

Red blood spots on toilet paper, stools, or toilet bowl are a few symptoms of piles. This occurs when the pressure within the veins increases and causes them to tear and cause bleeding.
The patient also experiences pain during and after passing stools. This is due to inflammation of the veins that causes their swelling. The swollen veins apply strain on the muscles, cause spasms and is the reason for the discomfort that patients experience.
Persons suffering from piles may also face itching around the anal portion. The inflamed veins ooze mucous that gives rise to inflammation around the anus and causes itching.
Know the causes and how you can prevent it:

The primary cause for the piles is attributed to one factor which is heightened abdominal pressure.
Consequently, there is a build-up of pressure in the veins around the anus that causes the piles disorder.
The various causes for an increase in abdominal pressure are flatulence, constipation, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, diarrhea, pregnancy and sitting for prolonged durations.
What is the approach?
Homeopathy serves as an effective cure for piles because it adopts a holistic approach. The homeopathic medicines are prescribed after studying the medical history of the patient and present physical condition. The person s predisposition to illnesses is also scrutinized by the homeopaths.
Unhealthy lifestyle habits are recognized to be the reason for bloating of the anal veins and piles symptoms. Hence, homeopathy aims to correct the underlying conditions that are causing the discomfort.

Why homeopathy?
Homeopathy medications are considered effectual for alleviating the discomfort of the hemorrhoids by controlling the bleeding. Additionally, the treatment methods provide a permanent cure for the disorder because they address the underlying cause. The treatment is also focused on treating conditions that give rise to piles. And, there are no worries of side effects.

So, if you have been suffering from piles for a while now and seeking a definitive cure without side effects, you can very well opt for homeopathy under the able guidance of a homeopath practician.

Anal Fistula - What Causes It?

Anal Fistula - What Causes It?
Anal Fistula - What Causes It?
An anal fistula refers to a small infected tunnel connecting the anus to the outer skin. Your body eliminates solid waste products or feces through the anus. When any of the glands inside the anus becomes infected or blocked, an abscess may form, which in turn results in formation of anal fistula. In about 50% of the cases, abscesses develop into fistulae. What are the causes for anal fistula? Anal fistulae occur primarily due to the formation of an abscess or infection in the anus. If the abscess does not heal completely after the pus has been drained away, a fistula can develop.

Other factors responsible for the occurrence of anal fistulae are-

Crohn s disease- a chronic condition where the digestive system becomes inflamed.
Diverticulitis- an inflammation of the small pouches that develop along the intestinal walls.
Hidradenitis suppurativa- a chronic painful skin condition which causes scarring and abscesses on the skin. Apart from these, people with HIV or infected with Tuberculosis disease also develop anal fistulae. If you ve had a surgery around the anus, then post-surgery complications may lead to infection or abscess on the skin.
What are the symptoms to watch out for?
The commonly observed signs and symptoms of anal fistulae include-

Irritation or discomfort on the skin around the anus
Occasional throbbing pain, especially while seated, moving around or having a bowel movement
Nodular swelling around anal region
Intermittent Discharge of blood or pus from an opening near anal orifice.
How does Ayurveda treat anal fistulae?
Ayurveda recommends Ksharsutra treatment for complete healing of Anal Fistula.

In this procedure; Ksharsutra a medicated thread is placed in Fistula tract. Medicine released from Ksharsutra debrides the fistula tract and induces healing. This medicine remains active for about 5-7 days so this thread needs to be changed with a new thread at weekly interval. No. of Ksharsutra changes required for complete healing of Fistula depends on length depth and branching pattern of fistula. It has been observed that Fistula heals at the rate of 0.5 to 1 cm per Ksharsutra changes so for a fistula tract of 3 cm length about 4-5 weekly thread changes are necessary for complete healing. Clinical trials conducted by Indian Council of Medical Research at AIIMS New Delhi have proved that Ksharsutra treatment is more convenient and more effective than Surgery in case of Anal Fistula. In this way Ksharsutra is the best way to treat Anal Fistula without Surgery.

How Ayurvedic Remedies Can Help You Treat Anal Fissure?
A tear in the anal canal is called anal fissure. When the skin breaks, it can cause pain and extreme discomfort. Some amount of bleeding during defecation may also be experienced. When the anal aperture is over-strained, it results in a crack leading to fissure. In women, delivery trauma can lead to anal fissure. Ulcer in the anal canal or sexually transmitted diseases too can cause the anal fissure. In children, it is commonly due to injury by passing hard stool. Fissure is usually seen at the anal verge. This being a highly sensitive area; any scratch or tear in this area gives excruciating pain, burning, itching, irritation like symptoms. There may be spasm in the anal region (which is a protective mechanism) and the patients are scared of passing stools. Sometimes patient avoids eating food so as to avoid going to toilet. Usually the pain subsides in an hour or so. However in some conditions where there is underlying inflammation and infection; the pain may persist whole day. Recurrent anal fissure which has not been treated properly give rise to an extra skin growth known as sentinel tag.

Ayurvedic remedies: In the patient suffering from Anal fissure; it is very important to regulate the bowel habits properly. Some mild laxatives may be used to soften the stool. Hot sitz bath and use of some soothing ointments, coconut oil, ghee etc. are helpful as they avoid the irritation. Ayurveda can completely cure the people suffering from anal fissures. The treatment duration differs from one individual to another. This is also based on the severity of the disease. In acute anal fissure; the allopathic doctors usually recommend surgery. The commonest adverse effect of surgery is incontinence where the patient is unable to hold stools. However acute anal fissure can be treated without surgery very effectively using Ayurvedic Kshar Karma. In this therapy; certain medicines are applied in the anal fissure so as to promote the healing. The sittings are repeated after weekly intervals and fissure heals in 3-4 sittings. In this way; this is highly specific, very effective and convenient method of treating anal fissure. In chronic anal fissure with associated Sentinel tag; Ksharsutra ligation is used to remove the tag followed by Kshar Karma sittings.

Painful Piles - Why You Should Not Ignore Them?

Painful Piles - Why You Should Not Ignore Them?
Piles can be really painful and embarrassing but fairly common at the same time. it should not be taken as a social stigma as with awareness and proper treatment, the condition can be managed and treated well. If overlooked then it may lead to many complications which are difficult to manage.

In Ayurveda, a complete cure to haemorrhoids is possible, so seeking medical attention can be of great help to relieve you from this condition. Piles, also known as Haemorrhoids is a condition in which veins at the lower end of rectum get inflamed and enlarged. When pressure on the rectum and anus increases, it causes added pressure to these veins, resulting in formation of haemorrhoids. They may burst and cause rectal bleeding. Haemorrhoids are most commonly found in middle-aged and old people while also in people who suffer from regular constipation.

Types of Piles -

Haemorrhoids are of two kinds, internal and external based on their location. Internal haemorrhoids are located in the inner lining of the anal tract. These veins within the rectum are concealed and cannot be felt so they are painless but when ruptured can lead to bleeding. External haemorrhoids are located on the outer surface of the rectum and can be seen, felt and when inflamed become painful. These are the more troubling type of piles.

Causes and Symptoms of Piles

Piles are caused mostly by constipation, but other causes may include untreated gastric conditions such as dysentery, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, genetic constitution and weight of increasing uterus during pregnancy.
If you are experiencing bleeding in anal region during defecation without any pain; you are suffering from 1st stage of Piles. If problem is not treated at this stage; Pile masses start progressing.
In starting, Pile mass come out during passing stool and go inside by itself (2nd stage). Later on these pile masses need to be reduced manually. If still Piles is not treated; Pile mass comes out again even after manual reduction while coughing, sneezing etc. (3rd stage). While piles may be an embarrassing issue to talk about, it should not be ignored either. It can be easily dealt with simple ways, and in most cases, all it takes is some lifestyle changes to get rid of the problem.
However, if left untreated, there could lead to severe complications. Some of them have been listed below.

Bleeding: In patients who have chronic bleeding, it could lead to chronic blood loss. Patient can develop anaemia because of this regular bleeding.
Mass protruding out from anal opening: If Piles are not treated at 1st stage; it can lead to development of pile mass which protrudes out from anal opening while passing stool and go inside. In later stages; this pile mass come out even on sneezing and coughing. At this stage they are prone to get infected as most of the time Piles are outside the anal opening.
Hygiene issues: The itching and discharges can lead to the patient having poor hygiene around the anal area. This further can lead to complications like infections. The area around the anus also becomes difficult to clean if the masses are more in number and size.
Surgical correction may be attempted in severe cases, but this also can lead complications in some people. These include:
Excessive bleeding which does not stop after the surgery.
Postsurgical infection
Anal fistula, which is a connection between the area of piles and the anal canal.
Damage to sphincter muscles leads to faecal incontinence, which is a loss of control over passing stool.
Ayurveda Treatment of Piles
Ayurveda has various approaches to the treatment of piles. Piles can be treated by diet, lifestyle, herbal supplements, Ayurvedic medication, and exercise. Ensuring good digestive health helps with piles if constipation is the cause of it.

Vegetables such as onion, bitter gourd, radish, and turnip are high on roughage and are a must to add to your diet as well.
Other than the diet you need to introduce specific lifestyle changes such as a colon cleanse every once in a while, and regular exercise.
Increase water intake, up to 8 glasses per day.
Keep away from processed foods
Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables
Do not sit for more than an hour in one position
Stick to stool timings and develop good stool habits
Do not suppress the urge to pass stools for too long and for too often
So, follow the instructions of your Ayurveda doctor to embark on the road to cure. If these measurements are not successful; kshar karma or Ksharsutra ligation of Pile mass is necessary. In the ligation procedure; Ksharsutra medicated thread is legated at the root of Pile mass.

Medicine released from Ksharsutra blocks the blood supply to pile mass and Pile mass sheds off in 7 10 days. Ksharsutra ligation is a para surgical procedure done under local anaesthesia. No hospitalization or bed rest is necessary in Ksharsutra Treatment for Piles. Daily routine activities along with office work can be done during Ksharsutra Treatment. So Piles can be treated completely in all its stages with Ayurvedic treatment. However, this procedure is to be performed only by a surgical specialist of Ayurveda..
