Hi, stem cell therapy? What exactly is stem cell therapy and has that helped patients with MS? I have been diagnosed ...
Hello Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which can grow to form any tissue of the body. In stem cell therapy either the marrow, blood or fat is removed and stem cells harvested and injected. Though their have been reports of some good results with the therapy it is not the standard of care. It can be used in clinical research setting. Do not get carried away by advertisements and spend huge amounts. Consult the doctor and discuss the exact benefits and risks, if you research properly you may even enroll for a clinical trial for free treatment.

I am not able to control my anger always. I try hard for it my sometimes I am not able to and I throw whatever I have in my hand. I have lost 2 mobile phones like this, immediately I release my mistake. I want to get rid of it completely. What I should do?

MA - Psychology, PhD Psychology

Most of the times anger stems from our thoughts in reaction to the events or situations that are happening. These thoughts are unknowingly hot thoughts that could be intentionally replaced by some cool thoughts to calm you down. This requires persistent and conscious effort to catch your angry thoughts well in advance before you act out. And realising it later would not be beneficial. Work on your communication skills and express your feelings calmly. Also, if nothing works, step out of that situation and place for the moment and get back once you have successfully calmed your self.

I am suffering from white hair for last 2 year it's look so bad can you plss hlp me what should I do?
And what I eat ...
In general, you lose about 50-100 strands of hair each day, but the loss is not visible as new hair grow in their place. However, if you lose more than a 100 strands in a day and more than 200 strands on the day you shampoo, you may be suffering from what is known as excessive hair fall. Apply coconut oil and do not use shampoo. Only dry the excess Certain factors or reasons may cause you to lose hair at an alarming rate, which are, 1. Thyroid problems your thyroid is responsible for your body’s overall functioning. The hormones (primarily T4 and T3), which it produces help in regulating metabolic activities. Problems with your thyroid gland can cause your hormone levels to rise or fall to unhealthy levels, which can result in hair fall. You have to check yout thyroid function by a TFT test and inform me. You can improve the functioning of your thyroid gland through a diet rich in calcium, iodine, magnesium, protein and Vitamins A, B and C. 2. Scalp infections-Infections of the scalp can also be one of the factors that may cause your hair to fall at an alarming rate. Of the different scalp infections, the ringworm scalp infection is the most common. Although this fungal infection can occur in any part of your body, when it develops on your scalp, you end up losing clumps of hair. Alongside the use of anti-fungal medications, even anti-fungal shampoos and creams can provide you with respite from the problem. 3. Poor diet, Gorging on unhealthy foods or going on a crash diet can result in the lack of essential nutrients in your body, which are required to maintain healthy hair. Furthermore, since hair is made of protein, having a balanced diet consisting of proteins and vitamin- rich foods is a must. You have to do a blood test CBC and see if you have anaemia and any sign of infection. 4. Stress gives rise to certain conditions such as alopecia areata, telogen effluvium (hair loss caused post-pregnancy or surgery) and trichotillomania (an impulsive need to pull your hair out), which can cause you to lose significant amount of hair. To avert a hair loss crisis caused by stress, make it a point to do some simple stress-reducing exercises, such as meditation or breathing exercises. 5. Using hair styling products like hair colours and straighteners can cause you to experience hair fall problems. Your hair not only becomes dull and dry due to their use, but also becomes weak and brittle, leading to a gradual loss of hair. Regular oiling and use of homemade hair masks are some of the ways you can try to counter the negative effects of these hair styling products. 6. The drugs that are used in the treatment of cancer not only destroy the fast-growing cancer cells, but also the healthy blood cells in your body. For this reason, consuming foods that possess cancer-fighting properties (like oatmeal, tomato, almonds, garlic etc) is a sure-shot way of fighting the disease as well as averting any side-effects that may arise because of the treatment. 7. Alopecia areata. Lastly, hair fall can also be caused by alopecia areata, which is a kind of hair loss that takes place when your body’s immune system erroneously attacks your hair follicles, and prevents growth of new hair. 8. Genetics. The origin of your severe hair fall or baldness can be traced back to your ancestors. So, your genes can be a factor behind your hair fall problem. If this is the cause, your body then becomes unable to produce new hair. Apart from the changes that you can make in your lifestyle to address the causes of your hair fall, there are also techniques out there that you can employ to permanently treat your problem, such as platelet rich plasma, mesotherapy, stem cell therapy, ozone activated platelet rich plasma & hair transplant. Do not use shampoo and apply coconut oil and only dry excess oil if any without soap or shampoo.

Laser Hair Removal - Can It Target Hair Follicles Across You Body?

Laser Hair Removal - Can It Target Hair Follicles Across You Body?

Body hair are typically seen as a manly attribution. For this reason, both men and women are constantly trying to keep their body hair free. Common ways of removing body hair includes shaving, waxing and the use of Depilatories. However, none of these techniques can permanently remove hair and hence need to be repeated regularly. The only way to permanently remove body hair is through laser hair removal therapy.

  • Laser hair removal can be used to address and remove hair on almost any part of the body including the face, arms, legs and bikini line. This procedure involves focusing intense light on the hair follicle pigments known as melanin without affecting the surrounding skin. The melanin absorbs this light energy and converts it to heat energy which in turn stops the stem cells in the hair roots from regenerating. This weakens the hair follicles to the point of falling off.
  • Hair removal is considered permanent when the hair follicles do not grow back. After the first session, new hair growth is often lighter and less dense than before. On an average, complete hair removal may require 5 to 6 laser sessions. Since laser therapy can be used to address only those follicles that are in the growing stage, these sessions are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. During this time the hair follicles that were in the resting phase can grow out. The number of sessions required also depends on the quality and number of hair follicles, individual’s hormone levels, and metabolism. In some cases where hair growth is very dense, maintenance treatment may be required once in six months or annually.
  • The procedure is relatively pain free. During the treatment, the patient may experience a faint prick or sensation of warmth. When treating sensitive areas, topical anesthesia may also be used. However, this is rarely needed. This form of laser therapy can take anywhere between 5 to 45 minutes for a single session depending on the amount of area being addressed.
  • Laser hair removal is considered a safe procedure and has minimal side effects. In some cases, it may cause a temporary change in the color of the skin of the treated area, but this usually resolves itself without medication. This can be prevented by using a good sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection and avoiding exposure to sunlight. In rare cases, people with a dark complexion may develop blisters and experience swelling and redness of the skin.

Skin Cancer - What Are Common Risk Factors For It?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Delhi
Skin Cancer - What Are Common Risk Factors For It?

Skin cancer occurs when the DNA of the cells undergo mutations, thus causing unsystematic cell growth which evolve into a cancerous mass. This abnormality stems from the over-exposure of your skin to the Ultraviolet Radiations of the sun.

However, there are other factors too that escalate the risks of skin cancer.

  1. Fairer skin tone: Inadequate pigmentation or melanin content in the skin offers less protection against the harmful UV radiations. Having red or blond hair or light-colored eyes makes you more vulnerable to this condition.
  2. Sunburns: A history of sunburns can often be the root cause behind skin cancer.
  3. Excessive exposure to the sun: If you spend a considerable amount of time under the sun and especially if your skin is not protected by clothing or sunscreen, you tend to get a tan. A tan is the skin’s response to extreme UV radiations.
  4. Moles: Abnormally large moles, known as dysplastic nevi, are more likely to turn malignant. Watch out for any change in the texture of the moles, which is one of the most important symptoms of skin cancer.
  5. Family history: According to studies, genes are considered to be one of the causes behind skin cancer. Hence, a family history of this condition could spell trouble for one.
  6. Personal history: Having suffered from skin cancer previously in life could endanger one even more.
  7. Pre-cancerous skin injury: Skin lesions, also known as actinic keratosis, make you prone to developing pre-cancerous growths on the skin. These could appear as scaly rough patches, ranging from brown to pink in color. They usually crop up on the hands, head and faces of people who are comparatively of a fairer skin tone.
  8. A weak immune system: People having a poor immunity system, including the ones affected by HIV/AIDS or are on immunosuppressant drugs which follow any organ transplantation have greater risks of developing cancer.
  9. Exposure to radiation: Radiation therapy is an often used treatment method for treating various skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Having been exposed to radiations, one could be indisposed to this condition even more.
  10. Exposure to certain chemicals: Exposure to certain substances such as arsenic might increase your vulnerability manifold. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Multiple Joint Pain - Know Its Treatment Options!

Pain in two or more joints in the body is known as multiple joint pain. Pain may occur either when a joint moves or when it is at rest. Sometimes, the pain might stem from the muscles, ligaments, or tendons. Examples of such conditions include tendinitis and bursitis.

Arthritis may be associated with the pelvis or spine joints. Different disorders affect different joints and the causes and treatment options vary accordingly. There are some disorders which affect the same joint on both the sides of the body, such as both hands and the knees. In certain disorders, the pain resulting from arthritis keeps on moving from one joint to another (migratory arthritis).

Causes:

  1. Most of the time, the root cause is arthritis. However, the reasons which cause arthritis are different from each other, in the way:

    • The types of joints involved.

    • The number of joints involved.

    • Whether the central area of the skeleton is involved or not.

    • Whether it is chronic arthritis (longstanding) or acute arthritis (sudden).

  2. Acute arthritis which affects multiple joints can be due to:

  3. Chronic arthritis causing pain in multiple joints is most commonly due to:

The most common joint disorders are:

  1. Fibromyalgia (widespread tenderness and pain in the muscles)

  2. Bursitis (inflammation of the joint cushions) or tendinitis (inflammation of the tissues which connect the bone to the muscle)

  3. Polymyalgia rheumatica (stiffness and muscle pain, primarily in the shoulders)

Warning Signs Include:

  1. Swelling and redness of the joints.

  2. Fever, chills or sweat.

  3. Chest pain or severe cough.

  4. Abdominal pain.

Treatment Methods:

  1. Drugs and medications are needed to treat autoimmune disorders. The autoimmune response of the immune system is suppressed with the help of these drugs. These medications include immunosuppressive medications, pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medicines.

  2. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) help in reducing inflammation.

  3. A sling or splint bag immobilizes the joint, which relieves the pain.

  4. The application of heat with a heating pad will lessen the pain to a great extent.

  5. Cold application with ice cubes wrapped in a cloth will provide relief.

Know About Acidity

Acidity is related to Heartburn and Gas formation in stomach. In acidity, acid reflux or Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), or more commonly known as 'Urdhvag Amalpitta' in ayurveda, there is a movement of gastric juices ( acid in nature) from the stomach into the lower part of esophagus. Ayurveda considers it to be caused by the aggravation of Pitta dosha. When Kapha is associated with this aggravated Pitta, the Acid starts climbing the oesophagus. This is exactly the hyperacidity for most of us and is translated widely as- Heartburn, Acid Reflux, Acid Brash etc.

CAUSES :

  • Excessive use of the oily and spicy foods
  • Anxiety, depression and anger
  • Irregular eating habits.
  • Consumption of Maida products in large quantity.
  • To use leafy vegetables in excess
  • Sleeping just after taking meal.
  • Drinking of excessive water
  • Not to sleep in night, long working hours.
  • Excessive intake of the caffeine and nicotine products.
  • Constipation
  • Carbonated drinks
  • Foods which are rich in fats, such as chocolates cause acidity or acid reflux diseases.
  • Excessive intake of alcohol, smoking, keeping stomach empty for long time, skipping breakfast causes acidity.
  • Other causes of acidity or heartburn are pregnancy, aging, obesity, and bad eating habit, like eating junk foods.

SYMPTOMS :

  • Pain in upper abdomen immediately following a large or spicy meal
  • Nausea, vomiting, and loss of desire to eat which may persist for 1-2 days
  • Heartburn or sour belching
  • A sense of abdominal distension or 'bloating'
  • Flatulence (burping, belching)
  • Blood vomiting or blood in stool may occur in severe cases
  • If gastritis persists there may be eventual development of anemia

 TREATMENT :

Home Remedies

  • 1] For an instant relief from the high acid take tender coconut (Cocus nucifera) water. A dose of 100 to 500 ml should be taken twice/day. This is the best quick releiveing home remedy for the Heartburn alias Acid reflux.
  • 2] Take the powder of Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) in a dose of 3 to 6 g should be taken with100 to 250 ml water twice/day. Amalaki is one of the best pacifier for the Pitta as well as the Kapha Dosha and also a rich source of Vitamin C- to heal the bruised stomach and esophagous due to the high production of the Acid in stomach.
  • 3] To get relief from the high reflux of the acid mix gruel of rice corn, raw sugar, and honey in equal quantity. A dose of 100 to 200 g should be taken twice/day. This will full the stomach and the mucoidal layer on will protect the Stomach and esophagus for longer times and will keep the heartburn and acid reflux, away.
  • 4] Take powdere of Haritaki and Bhringraja (Eclipta alba) in equal quantity. A dose of 3 to 6 g should be taken with 12 g of jaggery and warm water twice/day- this will help you to get rid of the basic causes behind the Acid Reflux and Heartburn. Bhringraj is a herb of choice to get rid if the liver problems and all kind of digestive upsets.
  • 5] Instead of Tea or Coffee prepare a decoction from the equal parts of stem of Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), fruit of Neem, leaf of snakeguard, and Triphala. A dose of 14 to 28 ml should be taken twice/day. Take it only after cooling down to the room temperature. If you dont find the taste of above one, try this second option - prepare a decoction of equal parts of dried ginger, fruit of coriander, and leaf of snakeguard. A dose of 14 to 28 ml should be taken twice/day, keep in mind if you are mixing sugar- dont boil the sugar.
  • 6] Drink coriander (Coriandrum sativum) and cumin (Cuminum cyminum) tea, it is nice when your Acid reflux or heartburn is caused by the indigestion or overloading of the stomach in a late night party.

DIET & LIFESTYLE :

What to eat and how much to eat is an important factor in controlling acidity. The following tips should be followed:

  • The diet should consist of milk with sugar, and a little old rice.
  • Other recommended substances are: barley, wheat, rice (at least one year old), cucumber, bitter gourd, green banana, pumpkin, pomegranate, and cow's milk.
  • Eat dinner two to three hours before sleeping time as it keeps you healthy.
  • Fibers are necessary in the diet as they help in the digestion.
  • Take the balanced diet, don't shift to the totally bland spice-less foods.
  • Eat small meals more often as it helps in digestion.

Is There Any Relation Between Stress And Erectile Dysfunction?

BHMS
Sexologist, Lucknow
Is There Any Relation Between Stress And Erectile Dysfunction?

Yes. Stress definitely can cause erectile dysfunction (ed). It may become an issue with a new relationship or when challenges at work become overwhelming. These issues can interfere with “erotic focus” or “awareness of sensory experience.” basically, it can take someone out of “the moment” making maintaining an erection a challenge.

In fact, while stress is a common cause of erectile dysfunction in those under the age of 40, it can be responsible for ed at any age.

Also, while younger men are more likely to have a psychological reason for their ed, physical reasons cannot be excluded. Nevertheless, in younger men the causes are often related to stress, depression, extreme anxiety, or some other disruption in their emotional state. Young men may have physical reasons that cause ed, including issues like abnormal hormone production, trauma that affects the blood vessels of the penis, peyronie’s disease that causes a bend in the penis, neurological conditions that affect the transmission of signals that result in erections, drug or alcohol use, or the use of medications as simple as antihistamines.

Also, in men under the age of 40, ed can be an early sign that vascular disease is beginning to affect them. An erection is an indicator of a man’s general health. It is always worth exploring the possible physical issues that could be at work.

Nevertheless, in the younger population stress and depression are not uncommon causes of ed.

Psychological causes of ed

  • Depression: depression is recognized as having effects far beyond mood. It can compromise someone’s immune system or even increase the likelihood of having a heart attack. Erectile dysfunction can affect someone with depression even when he is in a stable and loving relationship. Unfortunately, the drugs used to treat depression can cause erectile dysfunction, as well. The good news is that erectile dysfunction medications work whether the difficulty is from the depression itself or from the medications.
  • Anxiety: people think of performance anxiety (worry about “performing” sexually) but anxiety over any issue that is distracting can lead to erectile dysfunction.
  • Stress: stress can be job-related, money-related, or the result of marital problems, among other factors.
  • Loss of desire: this is called loss of libido by doctors. It means that a person no longer desires sexual intimacy as they once had. Hormone changes as in low testosterone can cause erectile dysfunction, but so can so can neurological or psychological conditions, medications, or relationship issues. The reason should be investigated to resolve the issue. Erectile dysfunction (ed) drugs will not work for many of these patients. A person must feel a desire for sex to kick off the process that allows the medications to function properly.
  • Sense of inadequacy: feeling bad about oneself (low self esteem) can stem from a man being unable to fulfill the role he believes gives him value as a man. It can be a failure to provide as he hoped for his family, an inability to gain acceptance in a peer group, or being unable to engage in sexual intimacy with a spouse or partner.
  • Guilt: guilt over having an affair, losing the family’s money, having a hidden compulsion like gambling or drug use, or being unable to satisfy a partner, as examples, can all interfere with being able to get aroused or engage in sex.
