Pantop-D Capsule

This medication is indicated for treating GERD (Gastro-esophageal reflux disease), which does not respond to Pantoprazole medications alone. It prevents the tendency of vomiting and nausea in people suffering from gastrointestinal problems.

Pantop-D Capsule is a combination of Domperidone and Pantoprazole. The active ingredients fall under the class of dopamine antagonist and PPI (Proton pump inhibitor), respectively.

It is also prescribed to the patients of peptic ulcer and who take certain medicines for Parkinson’s disease. The medicine tightens the muscles near the entrance of the stomach and relaxes the ones present at the exit.

The action of this medication helps to speed up the passing of the food that you intake - from your stomach to your intestine, reducing the feeling of nausea and sickness, also preventing vomiting.

This medicine also works by blocking or reducing the stimulation in the ‘vomiting centre’ of your brain, which will eventually reduce the feeling of nausea and vomiting. The possible side effects of taking this medication can be headache, migraine, dryness of the mouth or breast pain.

You are advised not to take Pantop-D Capsule if you have the following conditions:

• An allergy to Pantop-D Capsule or any other ingredient of this medicine
• Bleeding problems or blockage in your stomach or in the intestine
• Tumour in the pituitary gland
• Cardiac disease
• Incorrect levels of magnesium, potassium or calcium in the blood
• Severe/moderate liver impairment

• How long is the duration of effect?

  The effect of this medicine lasts upto 6 hours.

• What is the onset of action?

  The peak effect of this medication can be observed within 30 to 60 minutes of administration.

  This medication should not be taken by pregnant woman unless extremely necessary. All the risks and benefits of the medication should be discussed with the doctor.

• Is it habit forming?

  No habit forming tendencies were reported.

• Are there any breast-feeding warnings?

• Are there any missed dose instructions?

  If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as it is remembered. However, if it is already time for the next dose, then it should be avoided.

  An emergency treatment should be taken or a doctor should be immediately contacted in case of an overdose situation.

This medication attaches to the dopaminergic receptors without causing any release of the chemical dopamine. It, in turn, facilitates gastric emptying and decreases small bowel transit time. Also, it binds to H+/K+-exchanging ATPase in gastric parietal cells, resulting in blockage of acid secretion.

Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

• Interaction with Medicine

  Concomitant use of Antiretrovirals, warfarin, methotrexate, digoxin, Drugs Dependent on Gastric pH for Absorption (e.g., iron salts, erlotinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, mycophenolate mofetil, ketoconazole, itraconazole), tacrolimus, antiarrhythmics, apomorphine, protease inhibitors, systemic azole antifungals, some macrolides (erythromycin, clarithromycin and telithromycin) is contraindicated.

• Interaction with Disease

  There are certain diseases with which this medicine interacts with, namely Liver disease, Osteoporosis, Hypomagnesemia, Kidney disease and intestinal disorders. The medicine should be avoided when the above conditions persist or dose adjustments should be made as per the clinical condition.
