About Flucol Syrup

Flucol Syrup is a triazole antifungal that treats fungal infections like yeast infections in the mouth, throat, food pipe, lungs, vagina etc. It is effectively used in the treatment of meningitis which affects the membranes in the brain and spinal cord. This medication is also preferred as a preventive medication in patients susceptible to fungal infections while undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy before bone marrow transplantation. It works by decreasing the production of ergosterol, which inhibits cell membrane formation in fungi.

It is usually prescribed for use once a day, taken with or without food. The duration and dosage of use varies with the health condition of the patient and the response to the drug.

Use of Flucol Syrup must be done with caution in patients suffering from cancer, AIDS, Torsades de Pointes or liver damage. You should not take the medicine if you are allergic to the ingredients in the medicine.

Flucol Syrup use may lead to side effects such as headache, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach upset, dizziness, vomiting, rashes etc. The side effects are usually mild generally and subside within a week or two. However, get medical attention if the side effects are serious like dark urine, light-coloured stool, itching, palpitations, seizures, fainting, etc.
