Urofollitropin

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Urofollitropin

A hormone that is man-made, Urofollitropin effectively treats problems of infertility in women. It functions as a follicle- stimulating hormone (FSH), which is originally produced by the pituitary gland of the body. The hormone plays an important role in egg development in the ovaries.

The drug is prescribed when the pituitary gland is not producing the right quantity of FSH in the body. Urofollitropin helps in maintaining ovary health and maturity of the eggs. In case of IVF and ART fertility treatments, Urofollitropin is prescribed along with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone. While medicines do help in the treatment of specific health problems, their overall effect on the body should be considered before taking them. Thus, discuss the risks and benefits of the drug with your medical practitioner before you start treatment. This is especially important in the case of pregnant women as well as mothers who are breastfeeding.

Urofollitropin is generally administered as a shot beneath the skin or into a body muscle. The doctor may also teach you to take the drug on your own. In this case clean your hands with soap and water every time you give yourself a shot. Take the prescribed dose only, over dosage can lead to serious health problems. Check the bottle and solution before use.
