It's important to discuss any concerns about medication, especially when it involves managing a condition like ocd (obsessive-compulsive disorder). Here's some general information about the medicines you mentioned: fluvoxin (fluvoxamine): this is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssri) commonly used to treat ocd. Ssris are often the first line of treatment for this condition. Restyl (alprazolam): this is a benzodiazepine, a type of medication typically used for anxiety or panic disorders. It can be effective for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. Regarding taking these medications together: combination therapy: fluvoxamine and alprazolam can be used together in certain circumstances. However, this combination needs to be monitored closely by a healthcare professional due to potential interactions and side effects. Potential interactions: fluvoxamine can increase the concentration of alprazolam in the blood, which may increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination. This is particularly important to consider if you are taking these medications during the day when you may need to be alert. Dosage and timing: the dosage and timing of these medications can be crucial. They must be tailored to your specific needs and health situation. Monitoring for side effects: when combining these medications, close monitoring for side effects and interactions is necessary. This is especially important for starting a new medicine or changing doses. Long-term use of benzodiazepines: it's also worth noting that benzodiazepines are generally recommended for short-term use due to risks of dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal issues. In conclusion, while it's possible to take restyl (alprazolam) and fluvoxin (fluvoxamine) together, it should only be done under the guidance and supervision of a healthcare provider. They can provide the best advice tailored to your health needs and circumstances. Always consult with your doctor before making any changes to your medication regimen.

I'm suffering form contamination ocd and of the psychiatrist had prescribed serta 50 for me but it was very uncomfortable after having it. So I stopped having it after just 2-3 days. Now that my ocd is increasing I thought of having serta 25. But it's not a good feeling after having it. But I have restyl 0.25 or clonotril 0.25 as and when required. Any other alternative medication that I can have for ocd and anxiety?

Hi please do not change dosage or stop medicines at will. If you are uncomfortable and feeling any side effects consult your psychiatrist immediately and apprise him of your situation. He will change the medicine or dosage. Take therapy along with medicines. Consistent therapy along with medicines is needed to help you cope with ocd symptoms. Medicines only help control symptoms temporarily, while therapy gives more sustainable results. Take therapy regularly and apply what you learn in therapy sessions in your life practically.

I was prescribed restyl 0.25 mg as I was suffering from anxiety and sleeplessness. I have been taking it since a month now. Is it ok to take this medicine daily? I want to get rid of this addiction. What to do? I tried to avoid taking it but the next day I would not feel good and feel the need to consume it. I really want to stop this cycle and addiction.

You are currently on the lowest dose of this medication, however it still can cause problem for some people when it is stopped. I would suggest you learn a few relaxation exercises online and use them to avoid the associated anxiety, or consult a psychotherapist for the same. I would also suggest replacing your medication with a much more “easier to taper” medication and then stopping it i.e. Clonazepam.

Hi. To address the problem, we have to correct the cause. So, if your doctor advices your father to stand up and walk, then do that. If he is not confident enough, a walking stick may be halpful. He might improve with psychological counseling also. Thanks.

Restyl is for short term control of anxiety, and it does not cure the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety can also manifest in the form of somatic symptoms like vomiting, etc you have mentioned. After ruling the medical causes for the same, you need to consulta psychiatrist for medications like ssri or snri group which rectify the cause of anxiety. Hope this info helps. Good luck.

Restyl is not given for more than 2 weeks for any condition, the cause for the same, like anxiety, stress, depression, etc needs to be taken. It is a highly habit forming medication with long term side effevt like shrinking of brain, personality changes, depression, withdrawal agitation or even seizures. So kindly consult any psychiatrist and fine way to wane of the same and get your primary condition treated. Good luck.
