U should do--
watch your weight. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat products and some pulses (high in purine) every day.
Enjoy low-fat milk and dairy products daily.
Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol
if you smoke, stop it. Add more fiber to your diet. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains, which provide complex carbohydrates. Avoid foods and beverages with high-fructose corn syrup, and limit consumption of naturally sweet fruit juices.
Good sources of low-purine nuts and seeds include walnuts, almonds, flaxseeds and cashew nuts.
U can take one handful of these nuts (mixed) everyday
curd is very good for you.
Dear lybrate-user,
as you have developed symptomatic gouty arthritis with high uric acid levels it is likely that you have a genetic tendency for high uric acid levels.
You need to avoid nuts, wine and red meat and drink 3-4 litres of water every day. If in spite of dietary modification the problem persists you may have to adjust the dose of febutaz to optimize uric acid levels.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Usually the drug mentioned is taken to reduce excess uric acid from the blood. Plus if a person has symptoms of joint pains and swelling with high uric acid. Unless those details are given there is no way to give any advice. Thanks.

Mr Rakesh Kumar, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Uric acid 10.6 mg is quite high. But please tell me what symptoms do you have, because nothing is mentioned about that aspect. Only increased uric acid is not such a problem unless there is gouty arthritis.
Since treatment has been started, it will take a few days for seeing any results.
Plus you will have to follow certain precautions which I am sure doctor treating must have already conveyed. Those are: 1 Stop taking high purine containing foods (if you are taking non vegetarian diet), cut out organ meat like liver, kidney. 2) Avoid red meat, only dressed chicken can be taken. 3)Sea food should be avoided. 4)Colas & alcohol should also be avoided.
Dairy foods are good. If you have any questions please do come back.Thanks.

Mr Mahesh Kumar, Thanks for the query.
With uric acid at 7.9 mg/100 ml and having swollen great toe, means you have gout. In that situation along with anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs you need a drug to reduce uric acid. So you may start it. Also please avoid purine containing foods like red meat, organ meat and sea foods. Plus refrain from alcohol, sweetened aerated drinks (colas) and smoking. Thanks.
Drink plenty of water
Avoid spicy fatty oily food
Daily do running for 30 minutes
There are two strategies in this management.
* Changing diet and losing weight - Changing adverse life-style factors is an important part of treatment. Losing weight and reducing consumption of alcoholic drinks (particularly beer) and purine-rich foods (such as red meat, offal and dark fish, spinach, methi, fermented food) can all help to reduce uric acid levels. A small amount of research evidence
supports the consumption of dairy products such as low-fat yogurts and skimmed milk, or cherries to specifically reduce uric acid levels.
* Drug treatment - Long-term drug treatment of gout aims to lower uric acid in order to prevent new crystals from forming and dissolve existing crystals.
