About Lactifiber Granules

This medication is a synthetic disaccharide along with the laxative in combination with it. It is similar to a lactulose-like glucose molecule which contains galactose and sorbitol. It is used for the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.

On using this medication you may experience side effects such as vomiting, nausea, dyspepsia, loss of potassium, muscle cramps, headache, flatulence and abdominal distension. Seek the advice of your doctor if your reactions become severe and do not show any signs of getting better.

The dosage for this medication should be determined by your doctor based on your medical history, age, response to theory and current condition. The medication should be taken with meals. Consult your doctor before making any changes to dosage.

Lactifiber Granules is not for long-term use. Take as directed, alone, or diluted with water, juice or milk, or take with food. Laxative results may not occur for 24-48 hours; do not take more often than recommended or for a longer time than recommended.

Do not use any other laxatives while taking Lactifiber Granules. Increased fiber, fluids, and exercise may help reduce constipation. Do not use if experiencing abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting. Diarrhea may indicate overdose. May cause flatulence, belching, or abdominal cramping. Report persistent or severe diarrhea or abdominal cramping.

    This medication is a sugar alcohol which can also be used as a laxative for treating constipation. When taken orally, it gets broken down in the colon to short-chain organic acids resulting in osmotic pressure increase leading to watery stool content and volume. It also absorbs water and makes the stool soft and bulky, easier to pass.

        Decreased effect: Oral neomycin, laxatives, antacids, warfarin, digitalis, potassium-sparing diuretics, salicylates, tetracyclines, nitrofurantoin.

        Contraindicated in patients on galactose-restricted diet; may be mixed with fruit juice, milk, water, or citrus-flavored carbonated beverages.
