Most professions require you to work with computers these days, and thus people tend to sit at the workplace for long hours that often leads to posture related muscle tensions and nerve issues. By following a few easy ergonomic principles at your workplace, you can keep such sufferings at bay though.

The workplace is where you spend the majority of your time in day. So it is crucial that you focus on your posture while sitting when you are working. Maintaining your posture will not only help you feel more comfortable working in front of a computer, but will also prevent back pain, muscle stiffness, and other muscle related problems.

If you are wondering what these workplace ergonomics are, take a closer look at them here.

  1. Choose the right chair: Selecting the right chair is of great importance when it comes to workplace ergonomics. The chair on which you will spend most of your day working should be supportive of your spine. This will prevent you from working in a bending position, thus reducing the risks of backaches.
  2. Focus on your shoulders and head: While working in a sitting position, your shoulders should be kept straight and not rounded forward, otherwise, it may give you shoulder pain, back pain, and neck pain. You should also keep your head straight, setting it over your spine in a way that your ears line up over your shoulders.
  3. Place the mouse and keyboard within reach: Make sure that you keep all your key objects, that you use repeatedly near you. You should minimize the amount of stretching you need to do. Not only will this reduce the risk of falling, but also prevent muscle tension from building up. When using your mouse or typing on your keyboard, make sure that you keep your upper arms near your body and keep your wrist straight.
  4. Keep the screen right in front of you: Keep your screen at your eye level so that you don't have to work in a posture where you keep your neck bent over the screen for long hours. Even maintaining proper distance from the monitor screen can be helpful in preventing eye pain and neck pain.
  5. Opting for a footrest is important too: In case you face any difficulty in reaching the floor, or even if your office chair is too high, opt for a footrest to prevent poor posture. This will help reduce the pain or any ache you may get in your legs and feet.
