Rhinoplasty commonly referred to as ‘Nose Job’, is a surgical procedure that corrects or enhances the shape of the nose. Rhinoplasty can be done for the medical conditions such as enhancement for proper breathing, which can be affected due to birth defects or the shape of the nose. The nose job is often suggested by the cosmetic surgeons for people who want to improve their facial features and make it look more attractive.

Why You Need Rhinoplasty?

A nose job is often pursued by patients who have nose shape problems. Some patients have disfigured nose from birth, and some patients seek it for better functioning of the nose. In recent times, many people are going for a nose job for cosmetic reasons. Since the surgery enhances the shape of the nose, you can enhance your facial features with the help of Rhinoplasty. However, you should keep in mind that no nose can be perfect. The surgery will help you give proper shape to your nose. But it will depend upon various surgical factors. You can discuss your expectations with your doctor and ask for their inputs. Depending upon the current shape and other facial features, your doctor may suggest some changes that are possible in your case.

Preliminary of Rhinoplasty Surgery

If you have decided to go for the nose job, then your doctor will carry some preliminaries of the surgery. Firstly, your doctor will study the structure of the nose. You will have to get an X-ray of the nose where the doctor can examine the bone and nostril structure. The doctor may also look into your medical history to determine the conditions interfering with the surgery.

How is Rhinoplasty Done?

Rhinoplasty is executed by the doctor under general anaesthesia. They numb the nose and the surrounding area so that you do not feel any pain. A small incision is made in the nose through nostrils. If the re-shaping of the nose bones is required, then the incision is made at the base of the nose. The bones are reshaped by cartilage method.

The main aim of Rhinoplasty is to give pleasant shape to the nose. This is done by correcting the inner bone of the nose.

After Surgery

After the surgery, your doctor will give your nose splint to wear. It is required to be worn for a week. You will also be swollen and bruised around the nose. For this, doctors prescribe some ointments and medication that will recover the swelling and bruises with time. Generally, the patient can have a fully normal nose in six months. However, you are suggested to follow the doctor’s instructions strictly.

Doctors may also ask you to apply some ice on the area around the nose so that swelling can disappear soon. Straining and stressful acts should be avoided for 4-6 weeks of recovery.
