Hi,

I am Dr. Shihiji Shrivastva, maxillofacial surgeon. We are going to talk about PRP today. What is PRP? PRP is Platelet Rich Plasma that is basically a safe technique of drawing of patients' own blood for multiple uses. It is currently used in orthopaedics, plastic surgery, scars, dentistry everywhere. Now we going to talk about the head part. Where and why is it used used on the head? and for what reasons?

So basically the plasma which is taken out from the patient's own body is centrifuged. In the blood which is centrifuged, the plasma gets separated. The modified contents, depending on patients requirement is injected into the scalp of the patient. This is done progressively, once in a month or once in 15 days or 21 days, so that the patient get used to the natural look that the patient is getting and the body also get used to the treatment which is required. We are modifying the blood supply to the local area of the scalp. What it does is basically increases the collagen, reduces scarring, increases the production of new cells also.

Since it has growth factors, it helps in growth of the hair follicle which is present in the head. It has proven satisfactorily results of improving thinning of hair and completely stopped. Also it reduces the scalp show, minimises it to a distinctive non-noticeable level. So I think I have cleared little bit basics of hair transplant by PRP method.

Thank you!
