The most special aspect of one’s personality is the face and is the most significant part that helps in identifying a person. Thus, naturally, and understandably, almost everyone loves indulging in facial care and is on the hunt for facial beauty products. However, you must know what goes into your skin and what problems it may cause before using a product.

Hence, below is a list of some common items that you should think twice about before applying them to your face:

1. Let the shampoos not get into facial skin

The face and hair comprise of different molecules. Though the hair requires stronger surfactants for removal of oil and dirt, the face needs a milder cleanser. Shampoos are not able to address the delicate and softer molecules which are present in the facial skin. When the shampoo from the hair drips down to the face, it can make the facial skin dry and flaky which can make it harder to repair.

2. Petroleum jelly might clog the pores

Petroleum jelly is often considered a home run in most households. With aging, the skin starts getting thinner, and the elasticity decreases. The best thing that you can do for your skin is to keep it moisturized. However, petroleum jelly is very thick and doesn’t evaporate, thereby it does not allow the moisture to come to the surface of the skin. Moisturizing is important but more important is choosing the right moisturiser.

3. Toothpaste for pimples? No!

There is hardly any person on the planet who has not used a dab of toothpaste for drying out a pimple. A lot of toothpaste contain anti-bacterial agents that can help with a blemish. The result may be that you may end up having irritation and therefore, you should limit the application of toothpaste to your teeth only.

4. Dilute Lemon juice before use

Lemon juice is always held as an epitome of skin brightener. Apple cider vinegar is the new rage in the skincare regime. If you feel like using these ingredients, then make sure that you dilute them with water before applying it to the skin.

5. Baking soda

A lot of scrubbing or exfoliating can be quite detrimental to the facial skin. Though you may believe that baking soda can help keep your skin clean, you should never apply it directly on the skin. You may mix it with your regular face cleanser or coconut oil.

6. Use specific serums

Just like all other cosmetics, serums for varying body areas are comprised of varying components. This means that your skin cannot handle your hair serum. Hair serums comprise of ingredients which are meant for treating hair shaft but won’t treat the problems of your skin.

7. Alcohol-based products

Astringents and toners are always present in the skincare shelves, but they are not able to treat skin issues. It would be best to use lightweight moisturizer or switch to a different face cleanser to avoid hurting the skin.

Thus, doing a little research before dabbing on a product on your face can spare your facial skin from possible hazards and adverse reactions.
