What Triggers Depression?

Although depression is a psychological disorder, it may be brought on by physiological problems with a person as well. It has often been noticed that depression follows bouts of physical illness and continues even after the person has recovered. This is due to the fact that certain illnesses may end up causing chemical imbalances within the brain, thus causing the neurotransmitters to function abnormally.

This is typical symptom when either a major physiological or psychological reason has resulted in depression. Many doctors and patients themselves have noticed that things in which they had a high interest in earlier, would either dwindle or not be there at all within a short period of time. This with a few other symptoms will clearly point to depression.

This might come as a surprise, even happy but life changing events can lead to depression. This has been primarily attributed to the shock, experienced when major changes occur in a person s life. The end of familiarity to a life or job which they were accustomed to might be too jarring and thus, may cause chemical imbalances which may lead them into a downward spiral.

Addiction to any kind of drugs or the tendency to drink excessive amounts of alcohol has been known to contribute to depression. While away from the drugs, the withdrawal may contribute to the depression and with each cycle as the dependency grows, the scale of depression becomes bigger.
