Food allergy is a case when your body’s immune system over-reacts to a protein found in certain foods. The symptoms can flare up even when in contact with a very tiny amount of the food. In most cases, food allergies are identified in very young children and while allergies subside over time, some continue to remain for a lifetime. A majority of food allergies are caused due to the following foods – cow’s milk, eggs, fish, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts and wheat.
HOW IS FOOD ALLERGY DIAGNOSED?

Skin tests and blood tests are often recommended. A food challenge under the care of your allergist / immunologist may also be needed to confirm an allergy.
