I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. Our face skin produces more melanin compared to the rest of the body parts, so our face skin is generally a bit darker. The harmful rays of the sunlight can damage the melanin cells and as the face is more exposed to sunlight, it is the first to be impacted. Dear sir, madam. I want to know what makes face dark. Excess sweat or sebum secreted by oil glands. I had been taking r32 homeo drops for sweat control which helped control excess sweat however face becomes darker and oily. Should I control the sweat or sebum? Please suggest to me homeo medicines to control excess sebum on the face.

General Physician, Noida
Hello. Neither sweat nor sebum can directly make your skin darker. However, excessive sweat, sebum production and dead skin cells can cause clogged pores which results in comedones (blackheads) and can make the face appear congested, dull and dark in color. Increased melanin production, commonly due to sun exposure also causes hyperpigmentation. All these issues needs to be taken care of for overall healthy skin. You can reach out to me for detailed advice and treatment plan.

Melanin is a substance that melanocytes produce in the skin surface, which results in skin pigment. Each person will have a different amount of melanin in their skin. The amount of melanocytes and the ratio of the forms of melanin in the skin dictate how much melanin is present. Some conditions and environmental factors can decrease or increase the amount of melanin in the skin. Additionally, methods are available to either lower or increase melanin levels in the skin.
