I am 8 months pregnant and also having bacterial e. Coli infection in my urine. For that, my doctor has prescribed me nitrofur 100 mg. I'm also suffering from geen vaginal discharge from last 1 month and for that doctor has now prescribed me cefixime 200. Is it okay to take both antibiotics? Or should I stop nitrofur for 3 days?

Better to avoid both the medicines. Cefixime is safe at 5 weeks. You can take 200 mg twice daily for 5 days. Take who ors and eat only rice based food for the next few days. For more information you can get in touch with me.

For a specific diagnosis of lactose intolerance or cow milk protein allergy (in which breast feeding is discontinued. Certain investigations are required. Green coloured stools is normal. Blood in stool may be caused due to several causes including the above mentioned causes or infection, rectal polyp, rectal ulcer, improper formula dilution etc. But, stopping breastfeeding without a confirmation may not be advisable. The benefits of breastfeeding will not be obtained in that case. In case cow milk protein allergy is diagnosed, then mother should refrain from consuming milk or milk products. Any other case, since the baby is breastfeeding. The mother should consume a healthy balanced diet, almost 1&1/2 times of amount consumed before pregnancy.

Eliminating white blood cells from the semen can improve the function of the sperm and improve pregnancy rates. Because antibiotics may help treat pyospermia, men may receive a prescription for antibiotics and told to take the entire course, even if no organisms are found in the urine. In rare cases, a culture of the semen may be taken. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (nsaids) are also prescribed for patients with pyospermia, and may also improve sperm count. Pyospermia may also get better on its own. There are other things men can do to try to eliminate excess white blood cells from semen, including: stopping the use of any tobacco product; avoiding the use of too much alcohol; stopping the use of marijuana; more frequent ejaculation. The use of the antioxidant nutritional supplements can reduce sperm production and lessen the effects of white blood cells in the semen. Men who are trying to make a pregnancy and who have pyospermia should consider taking antioxidant nutritional supplements, including vitamin e, vitamin c, coenzyme ubiquinol-10 (coq10), glutathione, and others. Pyospermia can also be treated by correcting genitourinary abnormalities that may cause infection or inflammation. Methods of correction include varicocelectomy, the surgery to correct a varicocele, which can improve semen production and reduce white blood cells in the semen. Other abnormalities that can be treated include prostatic obstruction with infection and urethral valves. Follow-up another semen analysis three months after the antibiotics are completed is recommended as a follow-up. If the pyospermia has not been treated successfully, other measures include semen cultures, antisperm antibody testing, x-rays of the genitourinary tract, and/or urine flow tests. In many cases, treatment for 30 days with an over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication may be recommended.

Doctor, I'm 25 years old and married. Due to slight infection the doctor specialist I consulted has prescribed to use Topcef 200 for 5 days. One in morning and one at night after food. I took Topcef 200 as doctor suggested for 5 days. I am very much regular on my periods. Every month my period due on correct date. My doubt is that, due to the intake of Topcef 200, will my period of this month get delayed. I have heard that antibiotics do delay periods. Will that happen doctor. Now my period is delayed for 6 days. It had never happened to me before. So I am confused if is it the effect of Topcef 200 or am I really pregnant. I feel pain in my breasts too. Please guide me doctors. I am waiting for detailed reply. Please help me!

Cefixime can have some inhibitory action on platelets, which may lead to some increased menstrual bleeding. It does not have any hormonal action and does not interfere with your menstrual cycle. If your periods are delayed for more than a week, better to get a urinary pregnancy test done. Pain in breasts could be due to various reasons, pregnancy being one of them. If you want to discuss your symptoms or queries further, feel free to contact me directly.
