Hi, Since your history suggests you have hyperandrogenism (hence spironolactone), the acne treatment can take long but is possible. You can best consult a dermatologist and an endocrinologist for the long term management. You can take oral Vitamin A derivatives only on prescription combined with peels for acne which enhance the results many folds. Also peels will take care of scarring and pigmentation.

There are many reasons for acne. But very basic things which you can handle at home are: eat healthy food avoid fried food/white flour/sugar. Drink lots of water proper bowel movement is a must keep your skin clean if you follow these basic instructions your problem would be sorted out. If it doesn't work then you need medicines for which you can get back to me. Homoepathy works wonderfully rest assured on that.

Botox & Fillers - How They Work?

Botox & Fillers - How They Work?

One thing most people do every day is to look in the mirror and analyze their looks. The face is needless to say the most analyzed part, and most people would want some or the other feature changed. This need increases with age, when fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, crow’s feet, etc., begin to make an appearance.

The skin has multiple layers, with the inner dermal layer having collagen and fibrous tissue which is covered by the topmost layer, epidermis. Though the epidermis is visible, the underlying layers give skin all its features from firmness to color to tone. Most skincare products work at improving these underlying layers, be it hyaluronic acid or vitamin A/E, or retinol, or benzoyl peroxide. These products can be used to improve skin tone, texture, glow or color. In addition to all the products that are available, Botox too made an entry into the market.

How they work?
With age, all tissues degenerate, and so do the skin’s underlying layers. Also, with poor food habits, the skin may not be getting the required nutrition to regenerate itself adequately. Therefore, these products are used directly on the skin to act as “fillers.” All the chemicals used as fillers contain essential skin ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C, vitamin A, salicylic acid, etc. Injected directly into the skin, they have a higher impact than when taken as a food or applied on the skin. The skin is able to regenerate better, and therefore improve appearance. The result is a glowing skin which is radiant and youthful.

How is it done?

  • Most treatments are in-office, walk-in procedures wherein each sitting takes about 20 minutes.
  • In a relaxed environment, the filler is injected into the skin, and the patient rests for about 10 minutes before walking out.
  • These injections are useful in improving tone, firming up the skin, and reducing sagginess and droopiness.
  • Repeat sittings are required once in 3 to 4 months to maintain the appearance.

Botox: Initially, this neurotoxin was used to treat diseases such as paralysis, but then its cosmetic use was gradually established. It is used when fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. It acts on the nerve endings and paralyzes them, thereby preventing wrinkles and reducing sagging.

How is it done?
This is again done as an outpatient procedure, and will take about 20 to 30 minutes. Not just wrinkles, even fine lines especially on the forehead can be eliminated with Botox. Production of skin proteins such as collagen and elastin are improved after Botox treatment, giving skin a youthful, radiant appearance.

While ageing is still inevitable, a youthful appearance can be prolonged and managed with options such as fillers and Botox.

Foods For Bone Health

Calcium is the most important and abundantly found mineral in our body. It is stored in the bones and the teeth. Calcium is needed not only for  bones, teeth and good health but also for our blood clotting, optimal nerve transmission, hormonal secretion and muscle contradiction. This is easily possibly by bone calcium, which is also known as a storage area, that releases calcium into the blood stream when needed. Blood calcium plays a critical role in balancing body’s acid/alkaline and pH (potential of Hydrogen). The body borrows calcium from the bones when need arises.

  • Calcium is used to create new  bones and maintain the strength of the bones. It is also used to control breast cancer and reduce PMS symptoms while helping in weight loss. Calcium is found to be deficient in postmenopausal women and milk intake is quite essential for them. Each day, we lose calcium in the form of skin, nails, hair, sweat, urine and cannot produce it. That is why it is necessary to outsource calcium.

6 Ways To Treat Acne In Men

6 Ways To Treat Acne In Men

Acne or acne vulgaris is a medical condition characterized by the appearance of an ugly and vulgar scourge on the face. Acne can cause scars, which are lifelong and can affect the self-esteem and self-image of a person. Acne is more common in adolescents, but grown-up men too can suffer from acne. Acne in case of men is less severe, but still they are enough to spoil one's facial appearance.

Causes

Acne is caused because of several reasons, such as:

1. Overactive sebaceous glands: The trapped oil in the pores of the skin or follicles may result in blockage or blemishes. The sebaceous glands are responsible for creating oil, which helps in lubrication of the skin surface. Over secretion or overproduction of sebum from these glands may cause acne in men. Excess of oil stays in the pores, which blocks the sebaceous duct creating a follicle blockage. This causes acne.

2. Shedding of skin cells: The epidermis or topmost layer of the skin sheds dead skin cells and is replaced by new cells. When this process is hampered, extra skin cells are produced and the presence of lamellar granules in the skin gets lessened. This makes the skin prone to acne. More dead skin cells are produced, which are not shed properly and the cells remain stuck inside the follicles, which lead to acne.

3. Bacteria proliferation: A type of bacteria known as propionibacterium acne is found on the surface of the skin. When the propionibacterium acne grows out of control, acne are caused. Due to blockage caused by dead cells and excess oil, an anaerobic environment gets created and oxygen cannot pass through the pores.

Treatment

  1. Treatment of acne is done by keeping the pores open. This is done by using various skin cleansers for exfoliation of the skin and removing dead skin cells.
  2. Some medicines which are available over-the-counter stores can be used to treat acne. The peroxide and glycolic acid present in the medicines prevent the formation of blockages.
  3. Chemical Peels: Chemical peels work by removing dead skin cells and encouraging new ones to grow, leading to a fresher, more glowing you. A chemical formula is applied to the skin that removes the top layer of skin and reveals the softer, smoother skin beneath.
  4. The procedure is used all over the world to treat skin problems such as wrinkles and lines, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damage - the results can be life-transforming.
  5. Several gels, lotions, pads and creams may help in exfoliation and cleansing of the skin. These products contain benzoyl peroxide, which helps in destroying bacteria responsible for triggering infection. They also contain Salicylic acid, which helps in unclogging of blockages.
  6. Several antibiotics can be consumed or rubbed on the surface of the skin for controlling bacterial growth. Certain vitamin A derivatives called retinoids also help in unclogging of the follicles. Some anti-inflammatory medicines can also treat acne.

Acne is a condition which is not just confined to teens and may occur in grown ups and adult males. Acne is irritating and must be eliminated using the various methods advised by your physician. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Discharge From Ear - Why You Must Consult A Doctor Urgently?

Discharge From Ear - Why You Must Consult A Doctor Urgently?

Ear discharge is a common problem. The medical term that refers to this condition is otorrhea. The reason behind ear discharge could be multiple. The discomfort is caused due to a number of factors, including bacterial infection, head injuries and excessive ear wax. There are various kinds of drainage, like blood, milky white fluid or wax. It can be noted that drainage of earwax yellow to orange or brown in colour is not a health issue. Other types of ear drainage need treatment or medical attention, depending on the severity of the situation.

Drainage due to ruptured ear drum: In some cases, it is found that there is drainage due to rupturing of the ear drum. It can be remembered that the rupturing of ear drum is not a medical emergency. The drainage, in this case, is clear. It may be mixed with blood or fully bloody. Symptoms in this case range from ear-ringing, intense ear pain, hearing loss to drainage. Eardrum can get ruptured due to the following reasons:

  • Middle ear infections
  • Barotraumas
  • Loud noises
  • Trauma

You will have to remember that this is not an emergency case. The rupture gets repaired or healed naturally. However, if the problem worsens it is best to see a doctor. For healing the rupture, doctors may undertake a tympanoplasty. The doctor might also ask you to try a solution of  1% topical sodium hyaluronate.

Ear drainage due to excessive ear wax: This is a normal condition. It doesn’t usually require medical intervention. However, if the blockage of wax is not removed by natural means or simple cleaning using cotton swabs, oil or hydrogen peroxide, take help from a doctor.
Ear drainage due to infection: If you have been infected by a foreign invader like bacteria, you are likely to notice milky white fluid oozing out of your ear. The infection can be accompanied by fever and pain in the ear. The odour of the discharge is offensive.
Ear drainage due to head injuries: This is dangerous of all other drainage condition. It needs immediate medical intervention. The drainage is definitely bloody in nature. A Large amount of the drainage may contain the cerebral spinal fluid.

Reasons to seek immediate help from your doctor
1. Unbearable pain
2. High fever
3. Blow to the head/skull
4. Sudden loss of hearing
5. Injury caused by a sharp object, leading to drainage bloody in nature.

Blackheads - Best Ways They Can Be Prevented!

Blackheads - Best Ways They Can Be Prevented!

An overproduction of oil, combined with dirt, bacteria, dead skin cells or residual make-up, usually lead up to clogged up pores, that appear black in colour, to show up on your skin. These are called blackheads. Though treating blackheads is not that difficult, it is always better to prevent them.

Here are some tips to prevent blackheads:

  1. The basic thing you can do to keep blackheads away is to wash your face regularly. It is important to keep your face clean, to prevent oil and dirt build-up, which clogs pores and lead to blackheads.
    • Use gentle cleansers that contain salicylic acid.
    • Never wash your face with hot water; use lukewarm water instead.
    • If you have oily skin, use oil-free cleansers. If you have dry skin, use cream or glycerine-based cleansers.
    • Avoid bar soaps since they tend to clog pores.
  2. Washing your face is important, but make sure not to over-wash. Washing your face frequently will irritate skin, strip it off its natural oils and cause more breakouts. Washing your face two-times in a day is sufficient.
  3. Always remove your make-up before you go to bed. Cosmetic products or make-up, if left on skin for too long, can lead to clogged pores.
    • Use gentle make-up remover or cleanser to remove make-up.
    • Keep your make-up brushes or cosmetic sponges clean to prevent bacteria that can cause clogged pores.
  4. If you lead a very active lifestyle, always shower after laborious activities. Sweating generally leads to an overload of bacteria, which ends up causing blackheads.
  5. After washing your face, don’t forget to apply moisturiser. Sufficiently hydrated skin actually helps keep blackheads at bay. Always use a moisturiser meant for your skin types. For example, if you have oily skin, don’t go for heavy creams; choose oil-free lightweight creams instead.
  6. Since excessive dead skin cells are also a cause of blackheads, it is imperative to exfoliate regularly. Gently exfoliate your skin to remove bacteria and dead skin cells to prevent blackheads.
    • Exfoliating will prevent blackheads, so if you already have blackheads, simply exfoliating won’t do.
    • Choose gentle exfoliators as harsh scrubs can irritate your skin.
  7. Having oily skin means your battle with blackheads is never-ending. The best way to combat blackheads, is to use products that absorb extra oil.
    • Weekly clay masks, counter benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid treatments can be extremely beneficial.
  8. Lastly, if you do think you see a blackhead on your nose, don’t touch it! Touching or picking it will only spread bacteria and oil, causing more blackheads.
