About Gluconorm-G 1 Tablet

Gluconorm-G 1 Tablet is a drug that treats patients suffering from type 2 Diabetes. This medication is used to control diabetes; it is not a cure. This medicine is a combination of two antidiabetic drugs viz, Glimepiride and Metformin. These drugs belong to sulfonylurea and biguanide antidiabetic medicine class. And works by helping the pancreas in releasing insulin.

Gluconorm-G 1 Tablet is used concomitantly in combination as alone not either one result in adequate glycemic control. Administration of oral antidiabetic drugs has been reported to be associated with increased cardiovascular mortality as compared to treatment with diet alone or diet plus insulin.

This tablet reduces the blood sugar level. Any form of allergy must be discussed with the doctor. Consult your doctor if you have history of kidney or liver diseases. Hypoglycemia has not been observed with ingestions of up to 85 g of metformin, although lactic acidosis has occurred in such circumstances.

The active constituents are dialyzable with a clearance of up to 170 mL/minute; hemodialysis may be useful for removal of accumulated drug from patients in whom metformin overdosage is suspected

This combination is given to the patients, if patients have not responded to 4 weeks of the maximum dose of metformin monotherapy, consideration to a gradual addition of an oral sulfonylurea while continuing metformin at the maximum dose, even if prior primary or secondary failure to a sulfonylurea has occurred.

This medication makes the skin much more sensitive to the sun. Hence, if you are using this medication, use sunscreen to avoid skin problems. Limit the intake of alcohol during medication. Inform your doctor if you are using any prescribed drugs or diet supplement.

Gluconorm-G 1 Tablet shouldn’t be used by pregnant women. If you had a surgery recently, it is advisable not to take this medicine. The starting dose for this tablet is a 1 mg tablet once every day. Gluconorm-G 1 Tablet should be stored at a temperature between 20 to 25 degree celsius. Keep it away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Keep the drug away from the reach of the children and pets.

The initial and maintenance dosing should be conservative, due to the potential for decreased renal function. Generally, elderly patients should not be titrated to the maximum dose of metformin. Maintain regular dietary intake and exercise routine and always carry a quick source of sugar with you. You may experience side effects during first weeks of therapy (headache, nausea); consult prescriber if these persist.

Adjustment of dose might be needed. Kindly consult your doctor before taking it.

        test
      • Interaction with Alcohol

Incidence of lactic acidosis may be increased; avoid or limit use.
      • Interaction with Medicine

        • Decreased effect: Drugs which tend to produce hyperglycemia (eg, diuretics, corticosteroids, phenothiazines, thyroid products, estrogens, oral contraceptives, phenytoin, nicotinic acid, sympathomimetics, calcium channel blocking drugs, isoniazid) may lead to a loss of glycemic control.
        • Increased effect: Furosemide increased the metformin plasma and blood Cmax without altering metformin renal clearance in a single dose study.
        • Increased toxicity: Cationic drugs (eg, amiloride, digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, quinine, ranitidine, triamterene, trimethoprim, and vancomycin) which are eliminated by renal tubular secretion could have the potential for interaction with metformin by competing for common renal tubular transport systems.
        • Cimetidine increases (by 60%) peak metformin plasma and whole blood concentrations.
      • Interaction with Disease

Administration of oral antidiabetic drugs has been reported to be associated with increased cardiovascular mortality as compared to treatment with diet alone or diet plus insulin. Metformin is substantially excreted by the kidney - the risk of accumulation and lactic acidosis increases with the degree of impairment of renal function. Patients with renal function below the limit of normal for their age should not receive metformin. In elderly patients, renal function should be monitored regularly. Use of concomitant medications that may affect renal function (ie, affect tubular secretion) may affect metformin disposition. Therapy should be suspended for any surgical procedures. Avoid use in patients with impaired liver function. Metformin should be discontinued at the time of or prior to the procedure in patients undergoing radiologic studies in which intravascular iodinated contrast materials are utilized, and withheld for 48 hours subsequent to the procedure, and reinstituted only after renal function has been re-evaluated and found to be normal.
      • Interaction with Food

        • Food: Food decreases the extent and slightly delays the absorption. Drug may cause GI upset; take with food to decrease GI upset.
        • Glucose: Decreases blood glucose concentration. Hypoglycemia does not usually occur unless a patient is predisposed. Monitor blood glucose concentration. Exercise caution with administration in patients predisposed to hypoglycemia (eg, cases of reduced caloric intake, strenuous exercise without repletion of calories, alcohol ingestion or when metformin is combined with another oral antidiabetic agent).
        • Vitamin B12: Decreases absorption of Vitamin B12; monitor for signs and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency.
        • Folic acid: Decreases absorption of folic acid; monitor for signs and symptoms of folic acid deficiency.
