About Deriphyllin Ax Tablet Sr

Deriphyllin Ax Tablet Sr is a combination medicine that consists of Ambroxol, Theophylline and Etofylline. It is primarily used in the treatment of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

It helps to get rid of some of the symptoms including wheezing, shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing etc. COPD is marked by the blockage of respiratory pathways due to which flow of air to the lungs are restricted.

Ambroxol present in Deriphyllin Ax Tablet Sr acts as mucolytic which is responsible for loosening or thinning of the mucus or phlegm for its easier expulsion through coughing.

Constituents like Etophylline and theophylline work as bronchodilators which does the relaxation of the muscles in the airways, thus widening them. Hence, they make breathing easier and more comfortable.

In both conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, there is an obstruction in the air-pathway towards lungs. Deriphyllin Ax Tablet Sr enables widening of the air-pathways, thus facilitating an easy and comfortable breathing.

    How does this medication work?

    This medication is an agent that causes diffusion of thick mucus. Uncontrolled quantity of nitric oxide (NO) is related to inflammation and other kinds of disruptions of the functioning of the airways. It inhibits the activation of guanylate cyclase which is nitric oxide-dependent. It also posses antiasthmatic and bronchodilator properties and is used for treating asthma, shortness of breath and chest tightness especially in newborns. It works by preventing phosphodiesterase enzymes which in turn causes bronchodilation, cardiac stimulation and vasodilation thereby relaxing muscles and opening air passages. Lastly it causes causes bronchodilation by competitively inhibiting type III and type IV phosphodiesterase (PDE). PDE is an enzyme that leads to the breakdown of cyclic AMP in the smooth muscle cells. It also counters bronchoconstriction by binding to adenosine A2B receptors and antagonizing adenosine.
