Cloxacillin is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections like cellulitis, impetigo, septoc arthritis, otitis externa and pneumonia. It works by restricting bacterial cell wall synthesis which in turn inhibits the bacterial growth in our body.

Cloxacillin should be used only for the treatment of bacterial infections and not for the treatment of other types of infections like viral or fungal infections. You should consult your doctor before taking it if you are breastfeeding, have any medical conditions, taking any supplements, or medications, or any herbal treatment, allergic to the medicine or any ingredient in it, have hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, cloxacillin or any other penicillin. It has been found that Cloxacillin is safe for use in case of pregnancy but it is advisable that you should consult your doctor first.

The side effects you may experience after taking Cloxacillin are diarrhoea, nausea and allergic reactions like rashes, itching, hives, problem in breathing, swelling in tongue, throat, lips, mouth. These side effects are not so serious but you should see a doctor as soon as possible if they become bothersome or persist for prolonged periods.

Cloxacillin is available in various forms such as capsules, liquid solution or can also be administered as intravenous or intramuscular injection in some severe cases. If you are taking it as capsules then it is recommended that you have it on an empty stomach, at least an hour or two before a meal. It should be taken on a regular basis after even intervals of time.
