The most accurate way to measure how much vitamin d is in your body is the 25-hydroxy vitamin d blood test. A level of 20 nanograms/milliliter to 50 ng/ml is considered adequate for healthy people. A level less than 12 ng/ml indicates vitamin d deficiency
vitamin d is an essential compound required for proper growth and development of teeth and bones. There are two forms of vitamin d that can be measured in blood. They are 25-hydroxyvitamin d and 1, 25- dihydroxyvitamin d.
The two sources of vitamin d is endogenous or exogenous. Endogenous sources are produced in the skin by the exposure to sunlight. The exogenous sources are through food and supplements. Vitamin d2 and vitamin d3 are the two chemical structures of the vitamin d. Vitamin d2 is called ergocalciferol which is mostly found in fortified foods and most vitamin preparations and supplements. Vitamin d3 is called cholecalciferol and is produced in the body and also used in some supplements. These two vitamin d2 and vitamin d3 are converted to 1, 25-dihydroxy vitamin d.
Hope it is clear. In one wprd, the vitamin d profile measures both forms of vitamin d whereas in the vitamin d test only the total of both are calculated or conveyed.

Mr. lybrate-user Kishore, Thanks for the query. V Oncevthe treatment is begun you have to take the tablets for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Because that much of time is needed for TSH change to be noticed. Another Important point to be remembered is that for remaining free from symptoms of hypothyroidism TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. So when next test is done this has to be looked at. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
It is a bit difficult to understand what exactly you are looking for. Because if you go to any clinical lab and ask for getting your blood glucose it is done. There is no specific name. It can be said as testing blood glucose. Can done as fasting, after food and random. There is another test by name Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), which is done after giving 75 g of glucose. Blood is tested for every half hour till 2 to 3 hours. Thanks.
