Autoimmune Disorders - How Does Ayurveda Help?
When the immune system of the body reacts against the tissues of its own body, it is called an autoimmune disorder. To put it more dramatically, the body becomes its own enemy. The immune system of your body keeps fighting disease-causing germs and bacteria, but in rare cases, the immune system might malfunction and fight its own body causing different disorders. These disorders may be caused due to genetic issues or due to mutations. According to Ayurveda, autoimmune disorders are a result of constant unhealthy lifestyle and diet. Ayurveda works at the root cause of the disease where it starts treating the malfunctioning immune system.

Here is how ayurveda treats autoimmune disorders:

1. Toxin removal: Ayurveda starts working on removing the toxins from the body. According to ayurveda, toxins or ama in the body interfere with the proper functioning of the immune system, which often leads to autoimmune diseases. Usually shunthi, haritaki, pippali, maricha, hingu and saindhav lavan are used to detoxify the body.

2. Metabolism correction: Not only will ayurveda detoxify the body, but it will also correct the metabolism which gets messed up when afflicted with an autoimmune disorder. Neem, guggulu, guduchi, vasa, patola patra and ghrita are used to correct the metabolism.
3. Increase in ojus production: Ojus is the component which helps in the nourishment of the immune system. It is generally received from the food you eat. Due to the dysfunctional immune system causing impairment of metabolism, production of ojas decreases to almost nil. Hence ayurveda increases its production. Guduchi, haridra, manjishtha, amalaki, nirgundi, yashtimadhu and pippali are used to increase ojha production.

4. Immune system correction: Lastly, ayurveda works at correcting the immune system. If the immune system is not corrected, then the above treatment procedure will just be useless. Ghrita, haritaki, bahera, amalaki, ela and dadim are used generally to calm the immune system and rejuvenate it. They help correct the immune system for normal functioning.

Autoimmune disorders may not be easily treated, but that doesn't mean you cannot expect it to cure or witness a miracle. You just need some faith and confidence alongside proper treatment and you are ready to roll.

Hello,

My name is Vaidya Shashank Agrawal and today we are going to discuss a very important health topic which has a very huge effect on everyone s life and that is viruddha ahara. First of all, I would like to tell you about Ayurveda. Ayurveda is the science of life and the world s oldest holistic approach towards health. It emphasizes good health, prevention and treatment of chronic illness through lifestyle processes. Svasthsya swatha ayushya rakshanm, atursya vikar prshanamch matlab swasth vyakti ke swathya ki raksha karna aur rogi ke vikaro ka upchar karna, ye iska pramukh udeshya kaha jata hai. Now we would like to talk about viruddha ahara, jo padarth dhatuo ke virudh guddhng wale, dosho ko praturpit karne wale hote hai unke sewan ko virudh ahar kaha jata hai. Jinke sewan se hume kisi bhi tarike ka koi bhi rog ho sakta hai usko hum virudh ahar kahte hai jaise agar hum dudh ke sath mood, chana aadi dalo ka agar upyog karte hai ya fir aalu, mooli jaisi sabjiyo ka agar hum dudh ke sath upyog karte hai ya machli lete hai dudh ke sath toh ye virudh ahar hai. Ya dudh ke sath hum namak ya khatti cheejo ka upyog karte hai toh ye bhi virudh ahar kaha gaya hai. Dahi ke sath mein udad, gud, kali mirch ya kela ka agar hum upyog karte hai toh ye bhi virudh ahar hai. Ghee, tel, shahad ya pani, inko agar hum sam bhag mein, inme se do chejo ko agar hum sambhag mein upyog karte hai toh ye humare shareer pe bahut hi haanikark prabhav daalte hai, inko agar hum shahad aur ghee isko alag alag agar hum upyog kar lete hai toh jaise shahad aadha aur ghee uss se double, toh kaafi rogo mein iska upchar kiya jata hai. Aur, jaise garam aur thande ka hum ek sath mein upyog karte hai jaise cold drink ke sath mein chai ka agar hum use kar rahe hai toh ye bhi nirvirudh kaha gaya hai isko ayurved mein. Dahi aur shahad ko garam karna sanskar virudh hai, koi bhi agar aisi thandi cheej ko hum agar garam karke use karte hai toh vo sanskar virudh hai. Aur koi bhi humara jo bhojan hai, adha kachcha hai vo bhi nahi khana chaiye, jyada paka hua hai vo bhi galat hai, aur agar hum usko high temperature pe garam kar rahe hai jaise junk food jitne bhi hote hai hum unko microwave mein garam karte hai toh vo bhi bahut galat hai shareer ke liye ya fir hum fridge mein rakh kar usko use karte hai toh vo bhi humare shareer pe bahut hi hanikarak prabhav dalta hai aur vo bhi virudh ahar mein laya jata hai. Iss prakar ke virudh ahar ke sewan se bal, budhi, veerya, ayu ka nash aur shareer mein vibhinn rog jaise napunsakta, andhatva ya fir jo panch humari gyanendriya hai, unme vikruti, ya fir sunai kam dena ya saans lene ki pareshani, ya safed daag, jo ki safed daag ka mukhya kaaran hi virudh ahar hai. Dudh ke sath hum agar machali ka sewan karte hai toh vo mukhya karan hai safed daag ka. Aur ashtobhagm, jo aath prakar ki asadhya ayurved mein batayi gayi hai unka sabka karan virudh ahar hi hai.aur peit ke jitne bhi rog hai, amlpit hai, bhagandar hai, kust rog hai, inn sabka karan virudh ahar kaha gaya hai. Atah, patya-apatya ka vivekar, humasha patyakar aharo ka hi upyog karna chaiye, apatyakar ahar ka hume upyog nahi karna chaiye. Aur agar hum agyanwash kisi bhi bhul se maan lo apni koi bhi virudh ahar ka sewan kar lete hai aur uss se hume koi bhi beemari utpan ho jati hai toh hume vaman vivevhan adikar se apne shareer ka upchar karna chaiye aur kisi achche vaidya se paramarsh lekar apne shareer ke rogo ka upchar karana chaiye. If you have any issues, any disease, you can contact me through lybrate and you can directly book an appointment online.

What Is Metabolic Syndrome?

What Is Metabolic Syndrome?
'Metabolic' are the biochemical processes that are involved in the normal functioning of your body. Risk factors are common traits, habits or conditions that raise your risk of developing a disease. Metabolic syndrome is the term used for a group of factors that increase your risk of developing cardiac diseases and other health issues, like stroke and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is becoming a prevalent disorder due to a sharp rise in the rate of obesity among adults. Metabolic syndrome may soon overtake smoking as the dominant risk factor responsible for heart disorders.

The following are some of the dominant symptoms of metabolic syndrome:

Abdominal obesity
A high level of Triglyceride( 150 and higher)
A lowered level of HDL (good cholesterol)
Blood pressure of 130/85 and above
Increased level of blood sugar(fasting) of 110 or more
It is not impossible to prevent the onset of metabolic syndrome. Slight lifestyle alterations can help to delay the onset of the disorder. In order to control metabolic syndrome effectively, you need to require long term dedication towards your health.

The following are some tips that may help you to control your metabolic syndrome:

Lead an active life: Studies suggest that if you lead an active life, you run a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome. If you exercise on a regular basis and participate in physical activities, it will help you to reduce your blood pressure level. An active lifestyle is also known to improve your insulin sensitivity, which will help you to control your metabolic syndrome effectively.
Healthy diet: A healthy and balanced diet that comprises of fresh leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits and whole grains carbohydrates is good for your overall health and helps to prevent or slow down the onset of metabolic syndrome.
Drink in moderation: A glass of wine on a daily basis is beneficial for your health. According to recent studies, moderate intake of wine may lower a person's risk of developing metabolic syndrome. It must be kept in mind that wine is only helpful when consumed in moderation. In fact, overindulgence in wine is actually injurious to health.
Maintain an ideal body weight: Obese people are more prone to suffer from high blood pressure and increased blood sugar level; all of which fuel the risk of developing metabolic syndrome. Reduce your excessive body fat to achieve an ideal body weight to lead a healthy life.

Metabolic Bone Disease - Causes & Symptoms Of It!

Metabolic Bone Disease - Causes & Symptoms Of It!
Metabolic Bone Disease is a term used for various conditions of the bones that can be caused by a number of different disorders. Most of these disorders are developed due to nutritional deficiencies, defects in the bone metabolism procedure or due to hereditary defects in the skeletal structure. Conditions that fall under the category are osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, Paget's disease, parathyroid conditions, chemotherapy induced bone loss and menopauseinduced bone loss.

Causes of Metabolic Bone Diseases:

Imbalance in the level of calcium : Too much calcium or too little calcium can cause bone diseases. While the overabundance of calcium (hypercalcemia) in the body will lead to calculi formation, which can be harmful for the body, the lack of calcium (hypocalcemia) causes weakness, bone pain and restricted growth.
Deficiency of phosphorus: Low phosphorus in blood (hypophosphatemia) leads to softening of the bone tissue and bone loss. Osteomalacia is commonly caused by phosphorus deficiencies.
Deficiency of Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for the body to absorb calcium. Cells called osteoblasts need vitamin D in order to absorb calcium and secrete the bone tissue proteins. A deficiency of vitamin D can lead to a number of metabolic bone diseases like rickets and osteoporosis.
Over or under secretion of the parathyroid hormone:The parathyroid hormone (PTH) stimulates the secretion of an enzyme, which converts the inactive circulatory form of vitamin D into its active usable form. The hormone can also increase the circulation of free or ionized calcium (Ca2+), which is not attached to proteins. Both underproduction and overproduction of the hormone causes skeletal problems.
Symptoms of Metabolic Bone Diseases:

The symptoms of most of the Metabolic Bone Diseases are similar, such as

A dull, throbbing pain in the bones is the most common symptom. The pain is frequent and lasts for a long amount of time, but unlike muscular pain, the exact region of bone pain cannot be specified.
Severe joint pains accompanied by stiffness and swelling of the joints. The patient experience pain during regular physical activities, especially during cold weather conditions.
Frequent fractures are caused by most bone diseases because the bone mineral density decreases drastically. Severe bone injury may be caused by mild trauma.
Defects in the bones can cause bowed out legs and a bent backbone.
A general feeling of exhaustion is often caused by bone diseases.
Kidney stones are an associated complication of metabolic bone diseases.

Metabolism Boosting Food That Can Aid Weight Loss!

Metabolism Boosting Food That Can Aid Weight Loss!
It is often said that we are what we eat. So, when a person aims to stay healthy, maintaining a healthy rate of metabolism is important. So what about foods which can really help boost metabolism?

While exercise is important to stay healthy, it is said that what a person eats accounts for about 70 to 75% of the entire challenge of being fit. So, it can be said that eating foods which help the metabolism stay at a high level is something which is really very important.

Foods that you must eat to gear up your metabolism and they will help you lose weight as well:

Protein-rich foods: Protein-rich foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, nuts and seeds, could help increase your metabolism for a few hours. They do so by requiring your body to use more energy to digest them. This is known as the thermic effect of food (TEF). The TEF refers to the number of calories needed by your body to digest, absorb and process the nutrients in your meals. Research shows that protein-rich foods increase TEF the most. Protein-rich diets also reduce the drop in metabolism often seen during weight loss by helping your body hold on to its muscle mass. What s more, protein may also help keep you fuller for longer, which can prevent overeating.

Iron, zinc and selenium-rich foods: Iron, zinc and selenium each play different but equally important roles in the proper function of your body. However, they do have one thing in common: all three are required for the proper function of your thyroid gland, which regulates your metabolism. Research shows that a diet too low in iron, zinc or selenium may reduce the ability of your thyroid gland to produce sufficient amounts of hormones. This can slow down your metabolism. To help your thyroid function to the best of its ability, include zinc, selenium and iron-rich foods like meat, legumes, nuts and seeds in your daily menu.

Chilli peppers: Capsaicin, a chemical found in Chilli peppers, may boost your metabolism by increasing the number of calories and fat you burn. Capsaicin may have appetite-reducing properties.

Coffee: Studies report that the caffeine found in coffee can help increase the metabolic rate by up to 11%. Furthermore, caffeine may also help your body burn fat for energy and seems especially effective at boosting your workout performance. However, its effects seem to vary from person to person, based on individual characteristics such as body weight and age.

Tea: According to research, the combination of caffeine and catechins that s found in tea may work to boost your metabolism. In particular, both oolong and green tea may increase metabolism by 4 10%. This could add up to burning an extra 100 calories per day. In addition, oolong and green teas may help your body use stored fat for energy more effectively, increasing your fat-burning ability by up to 17%. Nevertheless, as is the case with coffee, effects may vary from person to person.

Legumes and pulses: Legumes and pulses, such as lentils, peas, chickpeas, beans and peanuts, are particularly high in protein compared to other plant foods. Studies suggest that their high protein content requires your body to burn a greater number of calories to digest them, compared to lower-protein foods. Legumes also contain a good amount of dietary fiber, such as resistant starch and soluble fiber, which your body can use to feed the good bacteria living in your intestines. Legumes are also high in arginine, an amino acid that may increase the amount of carbs and fat your body can burn for energy. In addition, peas and lentils also contain substantial amounts of the amino acid glutamine, which may help increase the number of calories burned during digestion.

Metabolism boosting spices: Certain spices are thought to have particularly beneficial metabolism-boosting properties. For instance, research shows that dissolving 2 grams of ginger powder in hot water and drinking it with a meal may help you burn up to 43 more calories than drinking hot water alone. This hot ginger drink also seems to decrease levels of hunger and enhance feelings of satiety. Similarly, adding cayenne pepper to your meal may increase the amount of fat your body burns for energy, especially following a high-fat meal. However, this fat-burning effect may only apply to people unaccustomed to consuming spicy foods.

Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar may increase your metabolism. In one study, mice given vinegar experienced an increase in the AMPK enzyme, which prompts the body to decrease fat storage and increase fat burning. In another study, obese rats treated with vinegar experienced an increase in the expression of certain genes, leading to reduced liver fat and belly fat storage. Apple cider vinegar helps you lose weight in other ways, such as slowing stomach emptying and enhancing feelings of fullness. If you d like to give apple cider vinegar a try, be careful to limit your daily consumption to two tablespoons (30 ml).

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is experiencing a surge in popularity. That may be partly because coconut oil is high in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). This is contrary to most other types of fats, which usually contain higher amounts of long-chain fatty acids. Unlike long-chain fats, once MCTs are absorbed, they go directly to the liver to be turned into energy. This makes them less likely to be stored as fat. In addition, researchers report that a daily intake of 30 ml of coconut oil may successfully reduce waist size in obese individuals.

Water: Drinking enough water is a great way to stay hydrated. Additionally, it seems that drinking water may also temporarily boost metabolism by 24 30%. About 40% of that increase may come from your body trying to match the water s temperature to its own. Yet, the effects only seem to last for 60 90 minutes after drinking it and may vary from one person to another.

Diabetes - Ayurveda Remedies To Treat It!
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that results in higher levels of blood sugars in the body. It is assuming epidemic proportions, and India has become the new diabetic capital with more than 50 million diabetic people. The main problem with diabetes is it does not completely go away, and there is a whole myriad of issues that it brings along with it. Heart attacks, strokes, eyesight problems, delayed wound healing, nerve damage and impotence. Therefore, diabetes and by that we mainly mean blood sugar levels have to be managed so that there is a delay in onset of the associated conditions and/or reduced in severity.

Ayurveda refers to diabetes as Prameha (excessive urination) and Madhumeha (sugary urine) and has identified close to 20 forms of the disease. According to Ayurvedic belief, each disease is caused due to imbalance in kapha, pitta, and vata doshas and diabetes is caused by all these, predominantly by kapha. With any stream of medicine, management of diabetes involves two tracks - one is lifestyle changes and the second is medications.

Lifestyle changes include the following:

Diet: Reduce the amount of rice, sugar, potato, sweet fruits, maida, deep fried foods, and red meat. Protein-rich foods like lentils, soya, green leafy vegetables and fish should be increased. Diet plan should change to small, frequent meals instead of binge eating.
Exercise: Include 30 minutes of regular exercise into your daily routine if you have a diabetic predisposition.
Others: Avoid smoking and alcohol, ensure sufficient sleep, avoid sleeping during day time, improved foot and eye care, periodically check sugar levels, and manage stress levels.
Medication:

Ayurveda has a whole lot of home remedies proven to be very effective against diabetes.

Jambhul: Eugenia Jambolana whether eaten raw or juice extract has been shown to have beneficial effects in managing sugar levels and cholesterol.
Gymnema sylvestre: Used to manage diabetes for over 2000 years, it reduces sugar cravings and is being touted as the future for diabetes treatment.
Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia): It has 3 components that give it strong antidiabetic properties. The charantin reduces blood sugar levels; the polypeptide has insulin-like effects; and lectin that again has hypoglycemic effects.
Bel (Aegle marmelos): Also known as wood apple, leaves of the plant are shown to have antidiabetic properties. 5 to 10 leaves can be chewed on a daily basis to help control blood sugar levels.
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum): Consuming 10 g of fenugreek seeds soaked in water increases the amount of insulin produced, thereby increasing sugar breakdown.
Neem: Chewing about 4 to 5 leaves in the morning on an empty stomach helps to control blood sugar levels. Alternately, neem leaves powder is available which can be dissolved in water and consumed.
