Hand pain can be caused by injuries such as fractures, sprains and diseases like tendinitis, arthritis, osteoarthritis and Carpal tunnel syndrome. The symptoms include
• Pain on the thumb side of the wrist
• Difficulty in making a fist, grasping or holding objects and turning the wrist
• Weakness, Tingling, Numbness
HOW IS HAND PAIN DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of hand pain depends on the underlying cause. Orthopedicians may conduct a thorough examination of the hand and look for swelling or inflammation. He or she may order for an X-ray or an MRI to determine the cause of hand pain.
HOW IS HAND PAIN TREATED?
Depending on the cause of the hand pain, the discomfort can be treated by wearing a splint to rest the fingers or in case of a fracture and orthopaedic might put a cast. Anti-inflammatory medications might be prescribed to cope with pain. Physical therapy and surgery could also be used as treatment.
