Basically Red Eyes is not really a problem in itself or a disease but is an indication of something that is triggering the eyes like rash, foreign object in the eye, a sign of some infection, etc. The symptoms of red eye include redness surrounding the pupil area, which can spread to different parts of the eye. Also, this is followed with itching, irritation, watery eyes and inflammation in some cases.
HOW IS RED EYES DIAGNOSED?
In addition to the distinctive symptom of red eyes, a thorough examination of the eye by any ophthalmologist would help to determine the cause of the problem and lead to treatment options. An eye examination with a slit lamp and a test for visual clarity would be performed.
HOW IS RED EYES TREATED?
Treatment is given as per the problem. If a lens has led to some kind of irritation you may be advised to wear glasses for a few days. Alongside, antibiotic drops are provided to control the infection and treat the same. Avoiding sunlight and decreasing eye stress is also suggested.
