INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE
Interstitial Lung disease is use to describes different disorder that cause the scarring of lung tissue which can affect breathing and the amount of oxygen present in the blood. A persistent dry cough and difficulty breathing or shortness of breath when at rest are the symptoms experienced by most patients.
HOW IS INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE DIAGNOSED?
Pulmonologists may conduct a complete physical examination and evaluate your symptoms. Identifying the causes of Interstitial Lung Disease is a challenge. Some diagnostic tests are chest X-rays, CT scan, Echocardiogram. Pulmonary function is evaluated through oximetry and spirometry. In some cases lung tissue may be taken for biopsy.
HOW IS INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE TREATED?
Treatments available for this disease would only help to slow down the progression of the disease and to provide relief from the symptoms that occur. The damage that occurs to the lungs is irreversible. Patients with interstitial lung disease have benefitted from oxygen therapy and in severe cases lung transplants. The medications that are prescribed are usually anti-inflammatory or antifibrotic drugs.
