The oral yeast infection that occurs in the mouth and throat is known as Moniliasis or thrush. Patients would experience problems while eating and swallowing and in moving their tongue. The affected area could be itchy and in some cases red with light bleeding.
HOW IS MONILIASIS DIAGNOSED?
In order to diagnose the condition, your general physician will ask you about your diet and if there was any recent use of antibiotics. The condition is easy to diagnose by a physical examination.
HOW IS MONILIASIS TREATED?
Moniliasis isn't normally a dangerous disease except in rare cases when it enters the blood and spreads to vital organs of people with weakened immune systems. For infection of the skin, the doctor can give an antifungal cream or powder or prescribe an antifungal pill. For vaginal yeast infections, treatment consists of antifungal medications that are administered directly into the vagina as tablets, creams, ointments, or suppositories, or administered by mouth. For oral thrush, a suspension of antifungal medication can be swished in the mouth and swallowed, or sometimes the doctor will dissolve an antifungal lozenge in the mouth.
