Hyperlipidaemia is a medical condition in which the levels of any or all lipids or/and lipoproteins in the blood is abnormally high. This is the most common form of dyslipidemia. Lipids are essentially transported in a protein capsule. Hyperlipidaemia may be primary or secondary. Symptoms are:
• High cholesterol levels
• Yellowish deposits around the eyes or joints
An individual may suffer a heart attack and later learn that it was caused by Hyperlipidaemia
HOW IS HYPERLIPIDAEMIA DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of the same is done via blood tests by a general physician, based on the symptoms.
HOW IS HYPERLIPIDAEMIA TREATED?
Treatment for this disease is based on the type of Hyperlipidaemia one has. Like for type II, there is dietary modification suggested but for other types one has to take statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). In some cases, fibrates are given to reduce risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. There can also be a combination of both given.
