Hearing test is done when a person complains that he /she is hard of hearing. The ENT specialist may then examine both the ears and prescribe a hearing test. An auditory specialist will test the patient and assess the extent of hearing loss. The feeling of hearing loss begins when a person may ask for sentences to be repeated. If the person suspects hearing loss then it is better to consult the ENT or hearing loss professional. The hearing loss professional finds out with the help of a test whether or not hearing loss is present. If there is no hearing loss then there wont be any further tests. However, if he finds out there is hearing loss, then he would figure out what kind of hearing loss is present and to what degree it has affected the patient. The hearing loss is determined for each ear individually and recorded in the audiogram. The hearing is graphed on the audiogram where it is laid out like a piano keyboard with low to high frequencies going from left to right. It is also laid out from soft sound on the top to loud sounds on the bottom. Once the graph is filled it shows the hearing sensitivity of the patient at different frequencies and intensities. It is measured in arbitrary units of loudness or the decibels. The professional then classifies the percentage of hearing loss in the patient and suggests the fitting of a hearing aid and other treatment necessary.
