About Travoprost

Travoprost, is used for treating ocular hypertension and open angle glaucoma in patients who are unable to use or respond to other drug combinations. The medication is a prostaglandin analog which reduces the pressure in the eye by increasing the fluid drainage from the eye.

Travoprost should not be taken if you are allergic to different drugs. You should tell the doctor about all medicines that you take so that the doctor can make changes to prevent any drug interactions which may have adverse effects. Consult the doctor in case you are pregnant, lactating, having any eye surgery or any other eye issues.

Travoprost, are available in a liquid as drops. It comes in packs of 5 ml, 7.5 ml natural polypropylene dispenser bottle with a dropper. You should not skip a dose, but take the next dose as and when the next schedule is.

Travoprost, has side effects which require emergency medical help. These may be hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat. You need to stop using it and call the doctor immediately.

    How does this medication work?

    Travoprost behaves as a FP prostanoid receptor agonist that acts selectively. It is also a free acid. It heightens drainage of the aqueous humor and thereby reduces intraocular pressure. This is carried out mainly via heightened outflow of uveoscleral.
