The visual field test is an abstract measure of central and peripheral vision and is used by your doctor to determine the severity of glaucoma. Most common visual field test use a light nip that is repeatedly presented in different areas of your external vision. Testing peripheral vision is very important in the visual field test. Visual field test treatment is performed during the initial visit or as soon as glaucoma is uncertain. Visual field test is done to figure out vision loss due to glaucoma, damage to the visual back street of the brain, and other optic nerve diseases. Optometrist may use information from the visual field tests to determine glaucoma, macular degeneration, optic glioma, brain tumor, multiple sclerosis, temporal arteritis, central nervous system disorders, pituitary gland disorders and high blood pressure. Confrontation visual field exam is a eye vision test which is applied on a single eye at a time. Automated perimeters are used in following areas like diagnosing disease, job selection, visual competence assessment, school or community screenings, military selection, and disability classifications. Each eye is tested separately, and about 45 minutes is required for a complete test. The result of the visual field test result is a computer printout of the light origin that the patient's eyes were able to sense and process. The darkest areas of the test specify a complete loss of vision in that area and lighter area represent the vision of eyes.
