Mr. Lybrate-user, it is best to avoid sugar totally for a diabetes patient. Taking sugar substitutes also in not good. Recent studies have shown that all the sugar substitutes are unsafe. They increase craving for sugar, plus also have side effects of their own. So it is always good to avoid them totally.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Usually if a liquid is labled as "syrup" it does contain sugar. So when one prescribes it to a diabetes patient you have to look at the quantity(mentioned on the lable. Or ask for a sugar free version of the same product which mostly companies have. Thanks.

Hello,
I would advice you to have tea with minimum quantity of sugar (1/2 tsp) in 1 cup (even if you have diabetes) or rather have it sugarless.
Artificial sweeteners are not a healthy choice.

Sugar-free foods may be helpful if you have diabetes. In many cases, they serve as alternatives to conventional sweetened foods that are limited or restricted from your diet.
It is recommended to take proper medical consultation before using any sugar-free products. Your query can be addressed in a more better way if discussed in detail over a call or a video conferencing.
