Troxipide
About Troxipide
Troxipide is a systemic non-antisecretory gastric cytoprotective agent with anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and mucus secreting properties irrespective of the pH of the stomach. It is mainly used for the treatment of dyspepsia, gastric ulcers, amelioration of gastric mucosal lesions in acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis. Troxipide has cytoprotective effects on the gastric mucosa. It has been theorised that Troxipide's mucosal protective effect in gastric ulcer and gastritis is exerted due to the inhibition of inflammatory responses and neutrophil-mediated mucosal injury.
As neutrophils are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of mucosal injury caused by H. pylori, it is plausible that Troxipide may also be able to mediate gastric mucosal damage due to H. pylori. Troxipide enhances mucosal blood flow, which is the secondary defence barrier of gastric mucosa that supplies nutrients and oxygen to the epithelium. It also removes, dilutes and neutralizes toxic substances that have diffused into the mucosa from the lumen.
Some commonly observed side effects of Troxipide include constipation, rise in levels of liver enzymes, AST, ALT, acidity, nausea, fatigue and headache. These side effects were of mild to moderate intensity.
