Otosclerosis is a condition characterized by abnormal bone growth inside the ear leading to hearing loss.Normally, when sound waves enter the ear, the three tiny bones deep inside the ear vibrate thereby sending sound waves to the cochlea or the inner ear.In Otosclerosis , the stapes or the stirrup bone fuses with the surrounding bone thus becoming fixed. Thus sound is no longer transmitted into the inner ear efficiently leading to hearing loss.
