What could be the reason for hair loss?
You could find a million products out there stating “We could help you stop your hair loss”. Chances are, You tried a few too. Ever thought what type of hair loss you are trying to treat? Do you even know what’s the reason for your hair loss?

Question is, ‘How a disease can be treated without diagnosing it?’ First what you need to do is identify the reason for your hair loss; hair care products can give you a 1000 reasons to use their product, but they still cannot diagnose the reason for hair loss in each & every individual.

Pattern hair loss(baldness)
The most common cause of hair loss among men is hereditary hair thinning brought about by the effect of hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone). This type of hair loss affects women as well leading to thinning of hair over the front part of the head .

Nutritional deficiencies – Proper nutrition is very essential for hair growth, so deficiency of proteins, iron, biotin, minerals etc lead to hair loss, hair breakage as well as reduced hair growth.

Acute illnesses – Severe illnesses like infection(viral fever, jaundice, typhoid) blood loss, trauma etc can affect your hair growth cycle. The hair fall may not be evident soon and appear 2-3 months after the illness. This can lead to alarming rates of hair fall producing severe anxiety to the affected. This is called Acute Telogen effluvium. Usually self limiting, but at times the hair loss will persist and continue for several years(chronic Telogen Effluvium).

Medication – Some of the medicines when taken for certain period can bring about excess hair fall. Especially the ones used for treating hypertension, depression, cancer chemotherapy, retinoids etc. Once you complete your medication period or stop using these meds, hair loss gets reversible and your hairs start growing again.

Internal problems – Hair loss can be a reflection of diseases affecting the internal organs like thyroid, liver, kidney etc. Diabetes and various anemias can also lead to hair loss.

Severe mental stress – Acute mental stress following death of a close relative, divorce, financial loss etc can also affect hair growth cycle which usually starts with in 2-3 months of incident.
Scalp diseases- Hair fall can also be associated with diseases affecting the scalp. Fungal and bacterial infections, dandruff, alopecia areata, lichen planus etc. can produce either patchy or diffuse areas of hair loss.

The best way to deal with hair loss is seeking the help of a dermatologist who can diagnose the exact reason for your hair fall. If you keep on wasting money on oils, shampoos or other so called products, your loss will be irreversible, both financially and psychologically.
