Leaking or Discharge. Blood or fluid leaking from your vagina, or a change in your discharge (if it looks brownish, it could be your mucous plug, which protects your cervix during pregnancy).

If you're late in your last trimester of pregnancy, you're probably eagerly awaiting any signs of labor, so you know labor has begun or is imminent.

Here are some sure signs that you are in labor:

  • Lightening: This is an indication that the baby has dropped, settling deeper into your pelvis and relieving some of the pressure on your diaphragm helping you to not be so short of breath.
  • You may have persistent lower back or thigh pain, often accompanied by a crampy premenstrual feeling.
  • You will have contractions at regular and increasingly shorter intervals, and they will become longer and stronger in intensity.
  • You may have a brownish or blood-tinged mucus discharge.
  • If you pass the mucus-plug that blocks the cervix, labor could be imminent.
  • If there is a tear in amniotic sac, the fluid leaks out via the cervix and vagina, this is commonly known as your “waters leaking”. This happens towards the end of the first stage of labor.
  • Your cervix will become progressively thinner and softer and may dilate.

What to do next?

Call your doctor and rush to the hospital immediately. Keep your calm because you are going to have a BABY!
