Mouth ulcers are the small sores that are formed on the lips, gums or on the roof of the mouth. The other name of mouth ulcer is canker sores. Mouth ulcers can be triggered by hormonal changes, minor injuries, stress etc. Mouth ulcer is mostly developed in lips, tongue, inner cheeks etc. Mouth ulcers can lead to the disorder of behcet’s disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, HIV, AIDS, immune disorders, celiac disease. The symptoms of mouth ulcer are swelling around the ulcer, pain that worsens while eating salty, sour or spicy foods, soreness when brushing your teeth. You can prevent mouth ulcers by avoiding eating spicy foods, practicing good hygiene, rinsing the mouth with warm water, by brushing the teeth two times a day, by eating a healthy diet etc. You should consult a doctor if you're suffering from the mouth ulcers that affect the outer part of your lips, unusually large mouth ulcers, ulcers lasting for a long time, diarrhea, fever, mouth sores etc.

Causes of mouth ulcers
The causes of the mouth ulcer are as follows:

  • Stress
  • Allergic reaction to certain bacteria
  • Using harsh or abrasive toothpaste
  • Deficiency of vitamins
  • Changes in the hormones during the menstrual cycle
  • Accidentally biting your cheek or tongue
  • Viral infection
  • Lack of sleep
  • Eating strawberries 
  •  Bacterial infection
  •  Minor injury of the tissue from dental work
  • Biting tongue
  • Allergies
  • Wearing retainer
  • Fungal infection
  • Wearing orthodontic braces 

The home remedies for treating the mouth ulcers are as follows

  • Using the coconut oil:- Coconut oil helps in curing the mouth ulcer. Coconut oil has antimicrobial and anti inflammation properties. You can just apply the coconut oil on the areas affected by the ulcer and leave it for some time. Using the coconut oil helps in giving relief from the ulcers by reducing the swelling and the pain. So, you can use the coconut oil in order to get rid of the mouth ulcer
  • Honey:- Honey also helps in curing the mouth ulcers. Honey has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. You can just apply the honey on the areas that are affected by the ulcer. Repeat it 4-5 times a day. You can use honey for breakfast. It helps in reducing the soreness, pain of the ulcers and mouth ulcer size. So, for curing the mouth ulcers, you can use honey
  • Tulsi leaves:- Tulsi leaves are also used in curing the mouth ulcers. The other name of the Tulsi leaves is holy basil. Tulsi helps in killing the germs of the mouth and is regarded as an effective oral disinfectant due to its antibacterial property. You can also eat the tulsi leaf and then drink water. So, in order to get rid of mouth ulcer, you can eat the leaves of tulsi
  • Apple cider vinegar:- Apple cider vinegar is considered helpful in curing the mouth ulcer. Make a mixture of the apple cider vinegar and the water. Rinse this mixture in the water for 1 minute. After this, spit it out. Repeat it 5 times a day. So, in order to cure mouth ulcer, you can use the apple cider vinegar
  • Gargle with water:- Gargling with the warm water helps in preventing the mouth ulcer. Put the salt in the warm water and then gargle from it. Repeat it 4-5 times a day. It helps in curing the pain of the mouth ulcer
  • Baking soda:- Baking soda helps in treating the mouth ulcer. Baking soda helps in neutralizing the acid that is formed by the ulcer. Mix the amount of the water with the baking soda. Make a paste from this. Apply this paste on the areas affected by the ulcer. Wait for the paste to get dry. When the paste becomes dry, then gargle with the water. Repeat it 5 times a day. So, in order to cure the mouth ulcer, you can use the baking soda
  • Icing:- Icing also helps in treating the mouth ulcers. You can apply a cold compress or the ice in the areas affected by the mouth ulcers. It helps in giving relief from the pain caused by ulcers. So, in order to cure mouth ulcers, you can use ice.
