Suvarna prashan, which is also known as swarna prashana and swarna bindu prashana, is a highly recommended ayurvedic way of enhancing immunity and intelligence of children. It is an ancient health tonic for children. It works on the brain, mind, immune system and skin.

It is very helpful in growth and development of children as it maintains health, enhances resistance to infections by boosting non-specific immunity, and improves complexion.

Suvarna prashan acts just like modern vaccinations which are given to children to prevent diseases caused due to bacteria. It, however, does not have any specific indication like vaccines, but it is greatly helpful in boosting overall immunity of children.

Swarna prashana is very helpful in precluding upper respiratory tract infections and avoiding common cold and flu. It also prevents other diseases as the child grows up. Its benefits are not limited to bacterial or viral infections only.

Suvarna prashan also helps in proper development of brain. It enhances intelligence, memory and cognitive and verbal functions of the brain.

Suvarna prashan sanskar, an immuno-modulatory technique, is one of the most ancient Indian techniques practiced in almost every house to keep the children away from diseases.

Micro-fine and calcined gold particles, also known as swarna (suvarna) bhasma, is recommended to be used along with medicated ayurvedic ghee (clarified butter) and honey in unequal amounts to make this processs a success.

Age for suvarna prashanSuvarna prashan should be given to the children as early as possible, but it is very effective if given between the age of 0 to 16 years.

Ayurveda, however, has no specific mention about the age of giving swarna prashana, but it suggests an early administration to get great benefits. It is more likely to build immunity against various diseases and infections in early age as 90% brain development takes place by the age of five.

Hence, giving Suvarna prashan before the child gets five years of age can fetch maximum benefits.

If the parents forget to give Suvarna prashan to their child before the age of five years, then they can give it to the child by the age of 16 years.

Time of swarna prashana administration

The best time for giving Suvarna prashan (swarna prashana) to children is early morning. The Ayurveda doctors use swarna bhasma in Swarna prashana these days as it contains better safety profile and efficacy than unprocessed gold. The process of preparing bhasma decreases the possibility of unwanted effects and enhances its effectiveness.
Duration of use

As we have discussed so far, even the single dosage of swarna bindu prashana is highly effective in preventing common infections, but if the child is given complete 30-day course of swarna bindu prashana, it can greatly help in preventing maximum of the diseases and increasing intelligence. To maximize the benefits, the child can be given this medicine for six months also. According to kashyapa samhita, one-month consumption of Swarna prashana makes the child extremely intelligent, and if it is taken for 6 months, it makes the child a quick learner and sharpens the memory. Hence, Swarna prashana is good for use for six months in the single go.

Minimum usage of Swarna prashana is recommended for at least 30 days and the maximum usage has not been specified in Ayurveda. But as per kashyapa samhita, it is absolutely safe for use for 6 months regularly.

After completing the course of 30 to 180 days, you are recommended to give Swarna prashana once in a month for next 30 months. Pushya nakshatra day is considered best for the administration of Swarna prashana. This day comes in every 27 days.
