Snoring can have a number of causal or contributory factors like allergies or hypothyroidism. Also, in cases pertaining to habitual snoring where the person may suffer from breathing problems during sleep, certain disorders such as sleep apnea can also lie at its root.

Increasing alcohol intake disturbs the resting muscles found at the back of your throat, making it more likely that you will snore. Drinking even five hours before sleeping increases the probability of snoring. Even if you didn't snore earlier, chances are that you may start if you drink too much.

Certain medical devices such as nasal dilators can also work wonders in decreasing snoring problems, by helping keep your airway open. This device, which is very similar to nose disks or strips, needs to be attached outside your nose while you sleep.

If in case you have put on weight, losing weight might be the remedy to your snoring problems. This is chiefly because increased weight around the neck leads to the squeezing of the internal throat diameter, increasing the likelihood of it collapsing during sleep, thus leading to snoring.
